AFLW TRAINING : Wed 20 August 2025

All 30 listed players in attendance, with Jacinta Hose (LTI) continuing her rehab. Also present was a train-on player, left-footer (unidentified).

Of the 23 who played on Saturday evening, all participated fully with the exception of Tayla Harris, who did all the drills but sat out the match sim - probably just to avoid any further eye contact - if you know what I mean!

Tahlia Gillard, Grace Beasley, Denby Taylor and Gabby Colvin continued their rehab.

Based on yesterday's injury report I would expect Sinead Goldrick and Georgie Gall to come into this week's team.

Do you think Johnson will be omitted?

I think I know why you asked that question.....do you want to re-phrase it? 🙂

Ok. Do you think my girl Lily be omitted?

Is that better?

🤪

Tayla's helicopter would make life a lot easier for you, @Ghostwriter.

To paraphrase (I think) Baroness Orczy, "They see her here, they see her there, that demn'd elusive 'Writer gel!"

Lily had 7 disposals - limited opportunities (predominantly wing) from just 43% game time. Goldy adds a lot with her run and vigour, probably off half-back.

Someone has to go out for Goldy, so reckon there is high chance Lily is omitted. There - you got it out of me.

Thanks @Harvey Wallbanger for your post.

Meggs would guess the left-footer is Madison Ibrahim. Agree Goldie has to play but Gally is no certainty if Tay is cleared to play. We’ll see.

But maybe Georgia Campbell misses out. Tayla Harris started really well on Saturday night - I wouldn't be dropping her if her eye is OK.....

Genuinely excited to see watch these Demons.

I'm just grateful for ANY kind of selection headache. And feeling very wary of the Saints!

@Ghostwriter Now that you know the sporting definition of "white line fever", who do you reckon has the worst case for the W Demons? I could speculate a few but hard to say without knowing off-field personalities!

The most extreme case I've ever encountered was a school friend's mum who was the meekest, most gently-spoken and kind person, very unassuming. But get her on the netball court and watch out! The niggle, the aggression, the sledging. Then I'd see her in some other context and she was like a differently person again, bizarre. I suspect it's quite common in professional athletes though and might be quite a good thing psychologically to have separation between on and off-field.

so impressed with the level of skill improvement with the women's game since the earlier days. Congratulations to the coaches and the ladies themselves for working so hard to improve their skill levels. Perhaps the men could poach their skills coach for the preseason.

I’d definitely go Heater. She’s a tiny little human being who doesn’t say much but she’ll slam-tackle anyone who gets in her path regardless of their size. And she sticks her tackles too. She’s feisty to say the least.

And Paxy who is soft-spoken and has a gentle disposition which belies the way they play.

  • PREVIEW: Brisbnae

They really had me fooled when I picked them with great confidence to beat the Bombers at Gather Round last week. I should have recognised that nothing is more quintessentially Melbourne than defeating the undefeated early premiership favourite one week and losing to a winless cellar dweller on its way to establishing a record losing streak the next.
