Yep, that's a good point too, BoBo

I loved the hands in the back rule and it should still be in operation.  I like it mostly because it's a cut and dried rule.

Use your hands and you get pinged

Use of the body or the forearm to hold your ground was how it used to be (back in my day)

But you are right, Hawkins just pushed his opponents in the back and because of the shoddy rules, got away with it

The AFL are great at making money and marketing the sport but as custodians, they often fail

Yep 100%. The most frustrating thing about the AFL is they don’t apply their own rules until enough of the public kicks up a stink, which is quite telling that they’re happy to let things slide if not enough people notice…

After the dogs getting the early run with free kicks

The Pies have 15-5 since then

Called it. I said the umps will square up. Although they are getting the ball more.

Earlier in the game DeGoey was tackled by English and dropped the ball cold, play on was called. Just then a Bulldigs player lost the ball in similar circumstances and Collingwood subsequently given a free resulting in a shot on goal.

Free kick watch since the 15mins mark

Dogs 7

Pies 25

Why even bother watching?

Are the umps on the take? There are some seriously dodgy calls going on in this match.

Dogs need to spread and go fast and see if older Pies can go with them.

God I hate Collingwood crowds

kennedy - smart move to the dawgs!

Lowest of lows Cwood supporters.

Snuck in under my agents radar but it's time to increase the rent of my investment property full of pies Tenants.

3 more frees to 0 to start the last

and it's all over

Pies are going in hard and deserve a fair few of their frees but the lack of calls for the dogs is staggering as they are going in hard too

Out of sheer curiosity, how’d you find out they were pies supporters?

Was it the meth lab?

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
