Jared Rivers out for the season?

Featured Replies

Posted

Just on Ch. 10, Rivers has had scans for OP and that he is unlikely to play for the rest of the season.

According to Neale, the scans weren't 'too bad', but he can't run freely. He'll have more scans next week.

Is this the worst season of injuries in the club's 150 year history?

F***

It is the best course of action given our win-loss predicament though.

One has to ask the question, why all of a sudden is a KPP getting OP?

On the brightside it means Frawley will get 12 or 13 games of invaluable experience, which could allow us to have frawley, carroll and rivers next year as the 3 KP defenders

I reckon Rivers will be ok....give him a few weeks.

And wouldn't that be stupid!

You don't give someone 'a few weeks' to get over OP. If he has it, even in the mildest of forms, he should sit out the rest of the year wrapped in soft cotton wool, and instructed not to run, walk, or indeed stand up.

This is too serious to mess around with. These sorts of injuries can stick around for your whole career if they are not properly managed. We don't want another Moloney/Sylvia situation.

The season from Hell gets worst, I can recall a season which has been effected so greatly by injuries.

Bohdan strikes again

does that mean we can elevate a rookie like weetra or hayes now

Hayes has been banished from the club for not turning up to training.

Weetra has a broken wrist, and is already on the senior list.

We haven't got a rookie who could actually come in and help us. Perhaps Neaves, but highly unlikely.

I admire your optimism MFC but it seems like another installment in the 'Melbourne Anno Horribilis' best-seller series.

Get a full, fit list on the park next year with a couple of gun recruits and we'll see a different result.

I hope you're right about Jared all the same.

Indeed. Holland was omitted for this match and Frawley retained his spot, so it looks like he might get an extended run - which is a good thing.

:o Surprisingly terrible season aside, this is the worst news we've had in a long time. Rivers is in our top 5 most important players. Our backline is a mess without him. And now he too has succumb to OP. Hopefully he gets over it and can play unhindered next year and beyond. I couldn't bare to have another of our young stars cut down by injury. Brock, Sylvia, Moloney, Rivers. The future, ooze talent and determination....but injury prone as all hell

Seriously Guys.........Bohdan needs to be shown the door at the end of the season

What a major blow with Rivers out for the season, but at least it occured at a time like this. Hope he gets better soon.

Also about Hayes, are you saying banished as delisted?

and we already have 10 players getting jabs before we go out :(

it's final. i'm spending my two and a half hours on saturday scouring the stadium to find wheels! will let you know how i go...

at least we can pity ourselves for our injuries, imagine your were richmond, and could only ppity being ahead in the lastq quarter in about 5 games without ANY excuse for such failure.

i have a weeeeeirdly good feeling about this weekend folks. that forwardline looks damaging, and that middle looks ball winning. no miller = no 0-10!

get off the hang Bohdan badwagon please fellow Dees..

Think..THINK.. some of you before engaging keyboards. OP doesnt happen over-night.. whatever was lurking was there before this bloke came to town.

Lets take the up side. Jared can take the rest of year to get right with no pressure to perform before necessary !!

hey ..its the season from hell.. ( appropriate in an unfunny way!! ) . Half full ppl.. lets take whatever seems a set back and turn it into an opportunity. In many ways the pressure is off of us... No one can expect us to do much other than push the re-start button and work forwards.

The pressure is alwasy going to be now on whomever we play... :-))

Get better Jared..take your time... do it properly..look forward to seeing yo in the normal place in 2008 !!

Bode?

Bode?

Playing mainly for Sandy Reserves, sometimes seniors if he is lucky. Hasn't done much, and will likely be ditched at the end of the year.

Neaves would be a good promotion, in rucking terms he's already in front of both Jamar and Johnson. Would be good to leave White in the forwrd line and rotate the other two to have a real good look at them, a really positive development move, but we all know it won't happen.

might be one of those twists of fate that catapult Neaves into the team earlier ( than some might have warranted ) but just in time to fill a need.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterdayโ€™s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown andย  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
