History buffs: Has there ever been a team in the top 4 so late in the season with a percentage below 100?

Yes absolutely.

Geelong after round 17 2000 had a percentage of 96.8, and had a 9-7-1 record. Yet they were 4th on the ladder at the time.

100% this.

Carlton - Cripps, Curnow, McKay, Wetering & Walsh

Brisbane - Neale, Dunkley, Daniher, Andrew, Cameron

Bulldogs - Bont, Libba, Naughton, Jamarra, English

Pies - N Daicos, J Daicos, Moore, Pendlebury, Sidebottom

Swans - Gulden, Warner, Heeney, Papley and up until this year Franklin

Every side in the top 8-12 teams atm has genuine stars running around. It just takes a bit of luck and to get your game going at the right time to win a flag.

For 4-5 years it's been fairly unanimous in the media & opposition supporters that we have had the competition's best defence, the top ruckman, in Brayshaw, Clarry, Trac & Viney the best midfield going round & some quality forwards.

With all this Goodie has delivered 1 flag which is a massive underachievement.

All I need now is Jaded No More to say that her husband is going and well look out Sportsbet. Can’t lose with that combination.

He’s unlikely to attend, but I will let you know tomorrow whether you need to place your bets.

Tell him we all insist.

Voss has a side with 2 Coleman medalists and a Brownlow medalist and they’ve done nothing. A couple of stars doesn’t always mean a flag.

we have never had a forward line, ever. bbb was the closest thing to a pure forward we had to compliment Fritsch..

It’s been well known that our forward line has been a mess… so while I agree our defence and midfield has been in the top 5, our forward half would probably have been mid table at best

Re-written for you.

Setting the bar at multiple flags for any side is unfair and unrealistic.

Winning flags is hard. There isn't a single person associated with football who says otherwise.

It's generally only done on here by the overwhelming angry/pessimistic. Your username checks out on this point.

Can anyone shed any light as to why Fullerton who was brought as a backup ruck to Gawn isn’t paying,  I guess Goodwin values him as much as Grundy!

...except this guy 😟:

Gale guided Richmond out of debt and into financial stability, and boldly predicted in 2010 that the club would claim three flags by 2020. His words would eventually ring true when, after taking out the 2017 flag, the Tigers and coach Damien Hardwick also claimed back-to-back premierships in 2019 and 2020.10 May 2024

'Just sayin' with this. I'm not in the camp of 'we've underchieved'. I agree (a) they're hard and (b) there are many reasons for 2022 and 2023. Not so sure about 2024...

I'd love to know, it's become incredible this stat to me.

I keep expecting them to [censored] the bed, but they still haven't yet.

They haven't really got into the bed yet.

Six wins were WC (twice, and 6 points first time and equal scoring shots second time) North, Richmond (by only 2 goals), Saints and Adelaide. Bulldogs (9.13) had more scoring shots. Credit for GWS win, but their (rematch-after-the-draw) win last week, over tonight's losers, might be colouring the footy world's perception.

Tomorrow is 'Ninight' time.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
