My mission today is to give Pup a big ol’ bear hug and tell him how proud of him we all are. And to hear straight from the *horse’s mouth if Ricky will be on the park on Friday night.

*not to be confused with other horse parts as per another thread 🫣

Update on Milkshake and Salem's knee would also be appreciated 👏

It was the usual "flush" session.

All 23 from Saturday night there - although Viney was in a tracksuit top, taking it easy (not unusual for these sessions).

Spirits were good.

Salo did not do the soccer drill, but Lever did - looks ready.

No AFL listed players who played for Casey present today.

Melksham joined the main group (see above).

Hunter and Hore both did some warm-ups, but not the soccer, so neither seem ready yet.

B Brown in discussions with physios.

Is Ricky Lever a cert for this week?

This convo took place-

Me: Hey Ricky! Friday?

Rick: What about Friday? What’s on?

Me: (eye roll) Are you playing on Friday?

Rick: If Goody picks me

Me: Yeah there’s three or four before you, right?

Rick: Yeah so I’m a roughie

Me: Hopefully a few go down between now and Friday and you’ll be picked in desperation

Rick: Then I’d better make sure I’m on the plane on Thursday

So I guess that’s a YES 😅

MH27 said they’ve told him another week or two.

JV7 rocking a footy boot and a Birkenstock. I asked him “Is that a fashion statement? Coz if so it’s pretty sch!tt.” 😂 He agreed.

He said he’s got a sore foot but it’s very minor and he will be right for Friday. He said he sustained it during Saturday’s match. Again, it’s nothing to be concerned about.

BBB tweaked his knee again. Said it’s not serious though. 🤷‍♀️

Salo said he doesn’t know if he’ll be right by Friday. His exact words were, “I hope so, but at this stage I’m not sure.”

When you’re posing for a pic and just before it’s taken you say, “Don’t go getting the wrong idea. You’re a coach and I’m a fan but that’s all it will ever be. K?!”

His (forced) grin masked his broken heart 😝

Salem could have been an absolute star of the game if his body wasn’t permanently letting him down. Such a shame.
Also great that Viney has a sore foot. Our midfield is absolutely loving life right now 🫠😭

I took 13 videos. The sun was in my eyes so some of them are not great. This is my favourite one coz they’re all so happy and they’re really enjoying themselves. I also LOVE Chin’s dramatic drop to the turf. 😅

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

  • PREGAME: Brisbane

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
