Nate Caddy

Think whoever gets him will get a player. He did miss two games leading up to the Championships because of illness and his highlight reel may have suffered accordingly. What I like about him is his preparedness to get stuck in, earn the contested ball, tackle, shepherd, etc. Maybe he won't be a forward but could run through the midfield like Cripps? That's an enticing prospect.

I take it back about Caddy.  His first 60 seconds are particularly special.

Jeez that's one of the worst video packages ever assembled. He dropped more uncontested marks than Chris Dawes! Kick fell short from 40 metre set shot again too. He's got aggression at the man, but he's got some serious work ahead of him to make it IMO.

It does however show than young Kynan Brown is a goer and could be a steal as a late father son pickup.

O'Sullivan looks good - is he good enough for our pick 6? I reckon Adelaide may take him at 10.

Perfect. During interviews we’ll get the idea in his head about coming home and then get him to request a trade home when Petty submits his Crom request.

Yes and I don't concur with those who think he's athletic.

He's a lumberer with poor pace, i.e. slow.

Didn't take a solid grab in the first 60 seconds

I was with you at the start of your post about Curnow, but this last part is very different to my observations of Caddy.

Curnow slipped and I think you're right that it was very little to do with the drink driving and almost entirely about questions regarding whether he could play key forward at AFL level with his size ("only" 192cm) or whether he'd have to be a midfielder/flanker. Ironically, the exact issues people are discussing with Caddy.

As for talking about Caddy's athleticism, I think you're completely wrong. Caddy is a very athletic and powerful player, which are some of his real strengths. He jumps at the ball, is strong at ground level and strong defensively. He is a powerful kick over distance and wins contests that are very difficult to win. Like Curnow he plays taller because he's got long arms. I think you've misjudged his ability because you've started at the wrong spot with his power and athleticism.

Boy I hope we get something in between these two assessments if we get Caddy.

I want Curtin but Caddy if not.

You got to be kidding ?

Might have been some irony in there

10. Nate Caddy

Geelong

Northern Knights, 193cm Forward
The Cats have also been linked to hard-running wingman Darcy Wilson, but marking forward Caddy would be hard to pass up if he’s still on the board. Melbourne also has interest in Caddy, but if it takes Leake then there’s every chance Caddy gets through to the Cats. Given Geelong’s ageing key forward stocks – Jeremy Cameron is 30 and Tom Hawkins is 35 – it makes sense to bring in some new blood. Recruiters believe Caddy has the potential to be a Charlie Curnow-type in time given his aerial abilities, power and strength.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
