To clarify for you, I don’t mean it’s speculation as to whether there is a player who you think is a [censored] to you and the rest of the cheer squad, I mean I don’t think it’s worth the rest of us trying to work out who it is so we can out one of our own as a [censored] (and slander a bunch of others in the process).

Our players get slammed on here anyways. But I appreciate your clarification all the same. 🙂

I’ve had PMs from folks saying it’s no surprise since they’ve also been treated rudely by one or some of our players, past and/or present.

It does strike me as strange though that I have to tolerate reading the awful comments about our players on DL, yet the moment I mention the  rudeness from one of them the [censored] hits the fan. Methinks personal agendas come into play. 🤔

he has been training and playing as a def all year, it's not a smart move to put someone into a new system and expect them to learn it in 5 weeks.

Very good way to confuse a player and stunt development too.  Bowie is a great backman and should stay there.  the players that would move for Hibbo would be Brayshaw and Rivers who have both had midfield roles this year so have been training in that area.

This.

I think his current position is as forward as he’ll get, he’s a lock in the defensive set up but the press allows him to get up to 50 and occasionally sneak in and be a target or have a shot if his opponent isn’t paying attention.

Wouldn’t expect to see him ever playing as a forward.

This pretty much covers it.

Think he would make a handy forward if he trained for it in the off but also unlikely.

I think Goody is showing who he wants in the finals side. Jvr didn't knock the door down but is back. Having said that, I think Goodwin will test both of these players and he's not afraid of dropping them again. Despite Goody saying there's plenty of time left to sort things out, there isn't. It's crunch time. Jvr, Chandler and Bbb are all in the mix. We need at least one tall so Jvr or Bbb are a lock one would think. Hopefully Grundy comes in soon to pick up the slack so to speak. Big game for Melksham again . If Fritta returns to fitness, he's definitely coming in for finals so it's up to Milk to keep his spot. No reason we can't have two mediums.

Melk is a big game player.  Has to stay in.  I think his effort last week will see him preferred over Joel from here regardless of Fritta coming back or not. (no slight on Joel either who's done well to push his way back in and makes a pretty good sub imho).

Our two great come back wins in the last two seasons had significant Melksham moments.

Not sure what slack you are referring to LD?  Maybe BB's form given his knee is apparently not great?

At some stage the forward line needs to settle and just be allowed to click in terms of being a core group that rarely changes most weeks.

That's the only way they'll get to know each other's game / methods / leading patterns etc in order to become a tight cohesive unit performing at a high level most weeks.  A la our regular line up down back.

Same in terms of the mids/HBs clicking with them and visa-versa.

Not sure about personal agendas or anything hitting the fan, my original post on this was a guess as to a couple of players I thought it might be, then after I posted I decided I wasn’t comfortable speculating on the personal character of people I don’t know so I edited the post to reflect that. Anyone else is free to do as they please.

It's an interesting topic I assume in this case there's a familiarity bias or something-  the Demon Army are always around the team so I can kind of see how they might not get as much attention from some of the players as they probably deserve - less effort put into each interaction because there are more of them?

This is exactly what we say. And you know what? It’s totally fine. We don’t expect extra attention from the staff or players. That’s NOT what we’re there for. But we do get a lot of love from them (which is always welcome) and to varying degrees. They’re all different. But that doesn’t mean constant rudeness from someone is ok, from anyone, not just an elite footballer. I’m sure every team has at least one such player.

Can’t agree more. My third visit to this area. Best Greek isles by the length of the straight (and I’ve done about 30). Swimming trip based on Ithaca all of next week. Will probably finish with a week on Zakinthos. Hard life but I’ll just have to grin and bear it.

Got a couple of level 1 tickets to give away, my brother has the flu and we can't make it sadly.

PM me if you need them.

On today’s form I can’t see Grundy coming in

i could see Jefferson as a smokey if he backs up today next week if the vfl is playing

Can we just leave this [censored] out of the game discussion.

Thanks dr thats a shame but I guess it's only one game. I really believe the fd is committed to seeing him play finals. I hope it hasn't demotivated the bloke being dropped. Was he played predominantly as a forward today?

Cool. How about all the other [censored] that’s also off-topic???? Should we leave that out as well? At least my discussion is footy-related. If you don’t like it, simply ignore it, or report my post. That’s what we all have to do when we don’t like what we’re reading.

edit: something your comment attracts is reactions from ppl who pick on someone regardless of what they’re saying.

I’m asking nicely, not just you, but anyone who has a problem with any of my comments PLEASE REPORT the posts. Or PM me to tell me you have an issue. Or put me on ignore.

I’m so over one particular poster that I’m pretty much done. Who needs this?

Good call Wcw. There are some real narcissists here as in to the general population. Particularly the ones who hide behind the facepalm emoji. We know who they are. It's strange that they don't make use of the ignore function. It works a treat. They would save so much time and energy. Maybe they enjoy all the agro. For what it's worth, I enjoy all your content as well as your commitment and efforts in supporting this club.

I think you put forward a fact that resulted in a veil of suspicion coming over people we all want to really rate.  Challenged on this, of course you couldn't elaborate.  It wasn't your intention to cause any of the angst I'm sure, and yet with hindsight the reactions are not all that surprising.  It matters so much to so many on here...  Water under the bridge now?

I for one really enjoy your posts and the positivity characterising your whole persona on here.  There are all sorts of people on Demonland, and some prominent posters are not my cup of tea.  So we're all different - and you will probably get roughed up once in a while - I have been.

But where else do we have such a passionate disparate collection of fellow-travellers?  You enrich the site no end. Please, stick around.

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Having convincingly defeated last year’s premier and decisively outplayed the runner-up with 8.2 in the final quarter, nothing epitomized the Melbourne Football Club’s performance more than its 1.12 final half, particularly the eight consecutive behinds in the last term, against a struggling St Kilda team in the midst of a dismal losing streak. Just when stability and consistency were anticipated within the Demon ranks, they delivered a quintessential performance marked by instability and ill-conceived decisions, with the most striking aspect being their inaccuracy in kicking for goal, which suggested a lack of preparation (instead of sleeping in their hotel in Alice, were they having a night on the turps) rather than a well-rested team. Let’s face it - this kicking disease that makes them look like raw amateurs is becoming a millstone around the team’s neck.

  • CASEY: Sydney

The Casey Demons were always expected to emerge victorious in their matchup against the lowly-ranked Sydney Swans at picturesque Tramway Oval, situated in the shadows of the SCG in Moore Park. They dominated the proceedings in the opening two and a half quarters of the game but had little to show for it. This was primarily due to their own sloppy errors in a low-standard game that produced a number of crowded mauls reminiscent of the rugby game popular in old Sydney Town. However, when the Swans tired, as teams often do when they turn games into ugly defensive contests, Casey lifted the standard of its own play and … it was off to the races. Not to nearby Randwick but to a different race with an objective of piling on goal after goal on the way to a mammoth victory. At the 25-minute mark of the third quarter, the Demons held a slender 14-point lead over the Swans, who are ahead on the ladder of only the previous week's opposition, the ailing Bullants. Forty minutes later, they had more than fully compensated for the sloppiness of their earlier play with a decisive 94-point victory, that culminated in a rousing finish which yielded thirteen unanswered goals. Kicks hit their targets, the ball found itself going through the middle and every player made a contribution.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds.
This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?
