i know this comes up occassionally, but i cant believe how slow the afl site lacks to load and to simply do anything. they could learn alot from baggygreen.com which is fantastic with its cricket coverage...

    Adobe has a lot to answer for. A Flashy website is not necessarily a superior one. Whilst more colourful than its predecessor it is perhaps even more inept. Probably a lot of footy fans would be happy with a straight text presentation but of course this would preclude advertising options. Heaven forbid.

    so true. it's funny when you follow the scores on the gameday pop-up. think you know the score, then turn on the radio to find its 2 goals different. money hungry bastards

    I know that if they had the option (which of course they don't, progress and all that) i'd be sticking with the text only version.. if only for the reason that we'd created a spreadsheet in excel that would download the stats page and you'd have up to date fantasy footy scores!

    Is there a web award for bad? The AFL must have a large team working on their web site because 1 person just could not do it so badly. A visit to this site is just about a guarantee of a bad mood. To call this site useless would be flattering it. I would rate it 2nd only to today’s umpiring.

    Give me simple HTML over flash anyday, the flash stats are annoying to navigate imo...

    I hate the AFL site. Took 20 seconds to load and im on broadband. Really sucks. I like their game day live but everything else is hard to navigate and slow as hell.

    the site is practically unloading if your on dial-up. When I go to my cousins place at Torquey, which is often, he has dial-up and you're waiting about 10 minutes for it to load fully. Even on dial-up, thats shocking.

    the afl have stats people doing absolutely every stat known to man. why dont we have access to these? they cant make money off them they should be made public.

    The site is crap. It's hard to navigate your way around it and some of the features are almost impossible to find. Not very user friendly.

    Adobe don't have anything to answer for. Flash is just one of their products, they don't force people to use it. The AFL and the crew they contracted to develop their site (Telstra) are the ones who have a lot to answer for. The current AFL website stinks.

    I don't understand why a footballer can be nicknamed after computer software.

    And forcing you to choose the radio broadcasts THEY want you to listen to when listening via their website.

    It is Adobe who put the figurative loaded gun in the hands of so many fools. Of course I don't imagine that the company would have envisaged the creation of aberrations such as the AFL site. It's a lot like Frankenstein and his monster. Sites like Youtube are already choking the internet with absolute rubbish.

    We should ask ourselves "How would the AFL website be without Flash Animation?"

    The flash explosion didn't really happen until about 18 months ago. It was about that time when Macromedia Flash sold out to Adobe. Is it just possible that during the period of which I speak various professional webmasters have been copping freebies? So I admit hat it's actually Macromedia which has lot to answer for. The software facilitates irresponsible and thoughtless web design.

      The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

      The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace.They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

      After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
