Who are the most sought for players when it comes to holding their Giant heads?

Hands down Kozzie. Tracc and Maxy close second. Some players have several heads, Gussy for example. We have one giant Langers but there’s permanent dibs on that. One of our gals has Ed the the entire match, every match. You’d have to prise him out of her cold dead hands for someone else to get their paws on him. And I know because I’ve tried. 😂

When a player retires or leaves us, we raffle off his giant head, happy in the knowledge that he’s gone to a good home where he’ll be loved forever.

A smaller banner on this occasion since we have to adjust the size based on the length of the visitors’ poles at the various arenas.

Anyways, on Sunday, a group of us arrived at Blundstone at 9am. We were in the race ready to pole (attach the banner to the poles… a bigger task than it sounds) where we were greeted by North’s poling crew… all TWO of them. 🙁

Of course we jumped on in and helped them. Actually we pretty much took over, leaving them to attend to other pregame matters.

Their banner wasn’t even completed, the Mazda graphics weren’t attached, so we did that too.

Sadly, the North cheer squad didn’t travel to Hobart for this match.

The first pic shows the two North poling crew members in the foreground and two of our guys in the background getting their poles out…

Thank you, FD. We’d never leave another cheer squad in a bind. They would do the same for us if we needed help.

Clubs don’t pay for cheer squads to travel interstate. We pay for ourselves. It’s the North cheer squad’s choice to not travel. That’s even sadder imo.

If you want the rose, have to take the thorn.

I'm sure the DA was there during the dark years of 2010-2013.

They were always there. Every single match. There was less of them, but always enough to make and raise a banner and chant and cheer, even during 100-point beltings. They never left before the final siren, either. The current three leaders took the reins in 2011. So they’ve been there at the very best and the very worst of times.

Raising poles, beltings, taking the reins and not leaving other cheers squads in a bind (won't mention raffling giant head): this thread has some serious double-entendre S&MFC vibes going on WCW. The very best and worst of times?

… and I haven’t even mentioned the ropes yet! We have coils of thick rope. And not just any old rope… but jute. And not just any old jute…but twisted jute. The bowels of the ‘G are a veritable den of iniquity. 😝

That’s on GameDay. Every other day I eat gag-orders… on toast, or fried, or sometimes even raw. But eating gag-orders raw isn’t wise coz that can cause one to gag (see what I did there 🙃). Besides, the attendant drool would spoil the look of one’s red n blue guernsey.

Thank you! Now please convince my son. 😁 He cringes every time I add to it, and I’ve added to it a bunch since this pic was taken. That is, he used to cringe, but the addition of giant Jayden has made him realise he’s fighting a losing battle. 🤭

Every day is game-day WCW. Or at least game day.

It's important not to sully the Demon colours with drool or dribble. May I suggest red and black?

I agree. Red and black should be reserved for Nazis, deadly spiders, and demented dommes.

Say what you want about the surface at Hobart but the banner looks totally bangin at that ground in the photo.

Nah, that’s where I keep Melksy and Harmesy and my new also-fave, Chinny Chin Chin Chandler. 😁

Before Sunday’s match the boys were doing warmups. There was only about 10 of us watching because this was long before the gates opened. Chin came over to say hello. A couple of our DA guys were up the back of the stand getting the aesthetics right (flag placement etc.) and they yelled out telling me to get a pic with him. While the pic was being taken one of the boys yelled out, “Hey WCW, keep your hands to yourself!” Chin and I both laughed, then resumed our pose, pics being taken all the while. So now I have a series of pics… in a third of them we’re both smiling, in the middle lot we’re both laughing and in the last lot I’m still laughing, but Chin is blushing. 🤭

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.
