So what does our forward line look like this year?

I don’t see Brown, T Mac and JVR playing in the same side

The chances of JVR or Brown playing 25 matches each next season are 0

We need to have patience with JVR and understand he is unlikely to go from no AFL games to playing a full season as a key position forward, and likewise Ben Brown will never be able to get through a full AFL season again and will have to be carefully managed.

I think JVR will play early and they will manage Brown to be cherry ripe for finals.

TMAC is a workhorse that needs nearly an entire season to reach max output. His absence last year exposed our weakness up forward. He’s our linchpin in attack, JVR and BB will provide the backup until JVR is ready to assume the #1 spot (shouldn’t be until 2025).

Unless they're well done.

I wanted to join in the fun but the choice cuts have all been taken.

I assume they both have the same coach?

Yeah I'd say they've both just hired the same specialist coach.

All well and good but that will mean he’s only had half a preseason. What if he performs poorly and everyone starts calling for him to be dropped? IIRC before 2019 he was in a similar position fitness-wise and barely fired a shot as a result (just like the whole team that year). Doesn’t hurt to play JVR if the coaches deem him fit and ready. We really do need to start blooding more youth up that end after all.

What are you talking about?  Half a season !!! He has been training since Day 1 before Cmas.

Like before 2021 he is doing extra to try to ensure he is as fit as can be. The track watchers have already indicated he is looking and performing back pretty well and he is doing the running part really well.

You have chosen to recall his poor recovery in 2020 after his leg issues in 2019.

And completely forgotten his excellent contribution especially the  first two thirds of the season to our Flag in 2021.

Also last year his form up till he was injured was again  very good. As most smart Demon fans have realised our forward line missed Tmac's marking, competing and Body work which enabled our smaller forwards ( and Fritta) to capitalise on his presence. No doubt we would have gone further had Tommy been playing all year.

He will be special for JVR as he starts his career this season and assist his development no end as well as star himself again.

Not doubting his ability mate… also well aware of his leg issues that year. But he wouldn’t have been training in full capacity before Christmas which was my main point.

Agreed on his great form last year and us missing him dearly, but I reckon it just highlights the additional need for younger replacements (hence the JVR argument).

I hope he kicks [censored] this year because we will need it, just won’t be surprised if he isn’t playing at his very best given his injury recovery hampering part of his pre-season preparation. But I guess it’s all just crystal ball stuff.

Tommy trained this morning and participated in everything.

He’s back in town ! !

I am going on the track watchers Foopy about Tmac. Looks set for a good season on his training so far!

Basically  we both agree about his need to be at CHF. He is a beast really in man on man and pack situations and gives off so much to the other forwards.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
