Rather than throw a dart I put some thought into the selection. I chose the song with the closest to pleasant title (or the least disturbing)… “Prosperity and Beauty.” But there was nothing either prosperous or beautiful about it. 😳

And now I think everyone should watch it coz why should I be alone in not sleeping a wink tonight?!

Nightmares R us

Thanks for the link WCW that was great. I like my metal but the farthest I go is Cradle of Filth and even then really only Cruelty & the Beast and Midian (love those albums). I prefer my metal with a bit more of a "groove" (if you can call it that) than thrash but if it's good I'll listen to it.

Great music to listen to at the gym though 🤣

Why the username TRIGON, @TRIGON?

If I'm not mistaken Trigon is a DC comics character? I recognise the avatar from a cartoon my kids watch Teen Titans Go! Funny show 🤣

I can’t take the credit, Dr. G. @Gorgorothput me onto it. Metal is not something I’d usually get into but that was more than just listenable. Great vid, too. Apart from the impaled skinned animal (goats?) heads on stage. Oh and the naked mock-crucified ppl. Other than that, [censored] n giggles galore. 😁

I will say, if anyone knows the meaning of my user name and where the band got the word from (without googling!) I’d be very very impressed.

Ghaal is a mad man.

I thought Satyricon was also a black metal fan but turns out he liked a movie by the same name 😅

A Federico Fellini movie if I'm not mistaken? A far stretch from black metal though would be an interesting experiment to get them to do a soundtrack accompanying the film 🤣

Drudkh rule. Uada now (mildly) suck.

New Drudkh album in a month, Uada are still good, bit pretentious at times tho.

Midian is my fav! And it’s funny you saying Cradle is as far as you go, they are pretty far down the road compared to most.

im like you, I like groove and lots of tempo changes but some days you just need a full on wall of integrity like Marduk or for insanity purposes the latest Weigedood which is a mind****!

Some great gym music is Marduk -Panzer division, Skeletonwitch- Beyond the permafrost, Blood Tsunami - grand feast for vultures. Last two are Black thrash so fast but with lots of grooves and time changes.

What I normally say to people when first hearing extreme metal and especially some facets of it like Gorgoroth is try and hear the vocals as an instrument more than vocals. But then I’d usually use different black metal bands than Gorgoroth to ween people on it, like something from Atmospheric Black Metal sun genre… 😄

A side point to this: how the hell do these guys escape vocal cord damage? Serious question. Twice I’ve had tickets to shows that had to be cancelled due to the frontman having this problem. And these are not metal bands. Far from it. In one case Jim James - frontman of My Morning Jacket - had to have surgery to repair his vocal cords (again) and was told at one point that he may not be able to continue with live shows. Surely this is an issue for bands like Gorgoroth (?)

James Hetfield from Metallica blew his out.
But it’s all about warming up and not forcing a sound but what sound you can make. Like Falsetto some have the range/abilty to do so.
One of the more interesting vocalists is Dani Filth and he does the black metal style growls but adds a falsetto range to the growls which gives a mix of higher pitched growls.
I watch a classical singer/vocal teacher who watches vids and talks you through how they are singing etc, I find it fascinating.

Or maybe they rely on what we in the cheer squad never leave home without … Fisherman’s Friend. 😁  Currently I go with original strength, usually citrus or blackcurrant. The OGs said I can move on up to extra strength next season. Hashtag Promotion!

Could always learn vocal warm up lessons, That surely would help.

Cruelty, Cradle to the Enslaved and Midian were easily my favs. Everything after that was too much of the same and it all just got tiring. I'd listen to a Cradle greatest hits album now and enjoy it but I don't dig too far into them these days.

Their latest album is amazing, I rate it up there with their early stuff.

Yeah he did it while doing So What which was a B-side to the Black Album. What a waste 😛

For me Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth has to be one of the best all around metal vocalists. His clean vocals are real nice but his guttural vocals are up there with the best in death metal. And his ability to change between the two so quickly is serious talent.

I saw Dani Filth do this live on the Midian tour at the Palace - really an experience seeing this live!

Do you have a link to the vids you mention in the final para? Would be interesting to watch.

The one time I saw Cradle was for the Godspeed on the Devil's Thunder tour at Metro and I just remember being mroe impressed with guitarist Paul Allender that night. I dunno why but Dani just started to irritate me after many years, maybe I really needed to catch him live in the prime period like Midian.

Cruelty is an album where every so often (maybe 6-12 months) I go through a phase where I just listen to it on repeat. The "re-mistressed" version where they've cleaned up some of the sound is another level. It's one of those albums where I wish the band would've made an accompanying movie like Pink Floyd's The Wall.

Gone slightly off track now haha.

Yeah he is good, hate the prog stuff they do now.
Paradise Lost have always been a fav and I like both his growls and clean.

She is a bit weird at first but you get used to her quirks. Done some amazing analysis over the years.

OK, his thread has gone off the rails, so what's one more push?

I've got fairly broad taste in music from Puccini to George Strait to The Crystal Method and am always open to the adventure.

Please hit me with the primer tracks for this genre you are talking about - select them like you want me to go further into the underwater cave, not quickly resurface for air ...

Bare with me, at work and this might take a while… 😂

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
