Petterd and Buckley must play this week

I know Daniher last week on the footy show said that every game we play we play to win but sure this should not include 'minimising the damage' as well. We need to throw these kids to the sharks this week and let them sought it out.

I think Petterd will play 100%

Not sure about Buckley though

Would love to see Buckley come to add some pace to try and break away from the congestion of the SCG / Sydney game style.

So would I

But we know Daniher wont play 2 first gamers

Necessity, if nothing else, should mean that at least one will debut.

But I tend to agree with YM, in that I am not sure Daniher will debut two in one week.

It would be great to see them though.......

Unlikely that either one of them will play if Neale Daniher sticks to his usual policy. Last year he delayed Matthew Bate's debut by a couple of weeks till after the Sydney game because he didn't want him to play his first game interstate.

I am willing to bet my left [censored] that Petterd will play against the Swans!

gee thats a gamble man..... i don't wanna lose my left [censored] ...

i doubt pettard will play Buckley definitely wont

the only reason pettard wont play i believe is because his debut will be made in Melbourne just like bates was...

no wonder your name is krazyjay

lol

Petterd is from Queensland. I don't think him playing his first game in Sydney really matters.

He must play this week. I agree Buckley is unlikely but I'm so frustrated that every team has played debutants this year except us!

You'd be odds on to win, but,if you don't you might feel a little odd.

buckley is 189cm, and move like the wind, so he has great tools to work with (judd is the same, similar players hopefully!!)

play them both i say, give them a back flank each, and let them make it theirs for 10 years!!!

Yep, seems that ND likes to have kids debut in their home state.

From memory ND also had guys debut when named in the 18 (presumably so then their friends/family can be told etc without giving anything away?).

That may be all well and good, but do we actually have the luxury of that option now, given the current state of affairs?

And he (or they) could have debuted at any time in the last four weeks we have been playing in Melbourne.

Lets play both Pettard and Buckley - it was only three games ago that Collingwood introduced three new players in the one game and the Pies have won two of the three games. And so what if the wins were against Richmond and Essendon - they were wins.

We have nothing to lose - except another match.

They will add pace and run thru the lines - something we desperately need.

GO DEES

Pettard, Buckley, Cj, Garland all in... Newton obviously not ready as he isnt performing well enough....

How danners can continually pick Ward, Wheatley, Brown ahead of Cj astounds me... sure CJ was quiet in the first 2 games but how's he going to get better playing Ressies all year??? its a joke an absoulute disgrace... are we going to let him slip through at end of year to another club and watch him excel like we have seen with Jolly and Armstrong.........

Same applies with Buckley and Pettard also Shane Valenti who should be on list... give them games... delist the dead wood for god's sake...... plan for 2008-2009.... not your own security Daniher......

Wrong. I don't think Jolly and Armstrong have excelled at all. Armstrong is a fringe player at best for west coast and there's a fair chance he will get dropped when cousins, fletcher etc. come back into the team. As for Jolly, he just shares the ruck load with everitt. It is Scott Thompson woh we let go for barely nothing.

I can't understand why ppl are calling for the youngsters to be played simply for the fact they are young.

I'm not sure how footy clubs are run in your town but my old footy club and hopefully MFC, you have to earn your spot.

Magpies did include 3 youngsters but from all reports, they've earnt their spot.

Petterd while not setting the world on fire, has done enough to earn a spot. Buckley's 50/50. Don't mind if he gets a spot or gets another week at Sandy.

Newton (Hasen't done enuf) and Garland (Ditto).

What I would like to see:

B: Warnock Carroll Ward

HB: Brown Ferguson Bell

C: C.Johnson Buckley Bruce

HF: Green Miller Pettard

F: Davey Dunn White

R: Johnson Godfrey McDonald

I.C: Sylvia, Pickett, Yze, Bizzell

It wont happen tho

I'm not saying I agree with it, simply that it's my observation of how ND deals with potential debutants =)

just on Radio

good luck kid... show us your spirit..and have a crack !! :-))

No big surprise when you consider we've gained even more injuries during the week. It's like the friggin plague down there!

Steven Quartermain on Ch.10 news just previewed the sport, and I quote:

"More bad injury news for the Demons"...

Woo, can't wait to hear who's injured now! <_<

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
