Just wondering- Lights at SCG

Since this the first swans night game at the SCG and concern over the development of the ground and light stands. The AFL was thinking of moving the game to Telstra Stadium. Just wondering if any of you guys have heard any news?

The SCG Trust didn't think that the removal of two light towers and the installation of temporary lighting would be an issue.

The two light towers at the Randwick end were to be removed and temporary towers were to be brought in and the broadcasters were to do testing.

The problem was that the SCG's neighbours, FOX Studios, refused to give permission to erect the temporary lighting fixtures on their grounds until match day.

Therefore this was becoming an issue and the AFL was investigating.

However everyone including AFL Ground Operations, the head of Fox Sports and the head of Channel 10 broadcasting inspected the venue with lighting experts last Saturday night, when the ground had the temporary lighting towers brought in and erected.

It was given the all clear.

Unlike the MCG, which would have had no problems with redevelopment or lighting simply because they have complete access around the exterior of their venue, while the eastern side and Randwick end of the SCG backs on to the Fox Studios lot.

Fox owns the land and therefore the SCG Trust does not have access to the exterior of these areas without permission which it has trouble getting.

So all work has to be done internally, which obviously makes it slower and more complicated.

But in answer to the original question, as far as I know they tested the lights on the weekend and they got a tick of approval  !!!

Apropos.......

Green light for SCG set-up

26 April 2007 Herald-Sun

Daryl Timms

THE AFL and Channel 10 have given the SCG the all-clear for Saturday night's clash between Sydney and Melbourne.

League and Ten officials did an after-dark inspection of the ground last week and deemed the four lighting towers and

temporary banks would provide adequate light.

Two of the stadium's six towers have been removed, along with the Doug Walters Stand, to prepare for a major redevelopment.

The Swans will train under lights at the SCG tonight, while the Demons will have a short session tomorrow night.

Channel 10's engineers tested the lightning, along with the AFL, and confirmed the lighting was at its usual reading.

Extra lighting has been housed on a truck.

Yes, especially with the transport system in sydney, especially out west, with trains every half hour to hour on weekends

I went to Telstra for a cricket match a few years back and trains were bad on weekends, but for me to get back from the SCG it would take me 2 hours

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
