The following two games are from the Fosters International Cup against Geelong (Toronto SkyDome) and Essendon (The Oval, London).

And we're into the AFL era, 1990 preseason games below

I only have brief snippets/Sunday sports world highlights of the first two 1990 games (Bennett kicks 8 goals against both Geelong and North) which I think are up on Rhett Bartlett's channel so won't re-upload them.

Round 3 game below, Easter Monday vs last year's Preliminary Finalist Essendon in front of a bumper crowd.

A famous comeback win at Windy Hill

This one is a single camera feed with crowd audio only so it feels like you're at the G in 1990 sitting in the members! Unfortunately the copy I have freezes just before 3/4 time so missing the final quarter but some great footage and especially rare and always good to have some old Roy Boys tape.

Jeez Dr. Gonzo 1990 was a very wet year, such heavy conditions, we had some great wins, some close games and a few unexpected losses.

A great win out west with a bit of heat in the game. West Coast have been a modern rival of ours basically since their inception.

Back to back wins over the Hawks after the heartbreak of 1987 and the humiliation of 1988 knocked them out of the finals and ensured they would not make the Grand Final for the first time since 1982! One of the all time great teams who would rebound to win the flag in 1991 despite being dubbed "Too old, too slow".

Thanks Dr. Gonzo brilliant tough 3 games from the Dees.❤️💙

We won a premiership in 1971 and played in 2 Grand Finals in 1969 & 1970!

The little known (or remembered) VFL night series was played from 1956 until 1971 (under lights at the Lake Oval)

The 1971 GF team was at virtual full strength and all the games were played in September alongside the normal finals (after the season proper)

n.b. the teams that missed the finals were the participants in the night series (8 of 12)

GF crowds regularly topped 20,000 (Lake Oval)

Here's the link ... (you'll need to scroll down a bit for the night series games, match reports and other details)

I remember going to bed as a youngster with my tranny radio with the one ear plug and listening to the night games.

Surpised the auto-censor didn't kick in with that post.

It’s why I added radio after tranny

Was it powered by AC/DC?

Footy in the 80s. Standing in the outer with cans of full-strength beer, very little club apparel ... and a tranny!

Still in the 80s and celebrating a win (hopefully) in the rooms after the game. Pretty sure that's Peter Tossol with the stogie.

  • PREVIEW: Brisbane

They really had me fooled when I picked them with great confidence to beat the Bombers at Gather Round last week. I should have recognised that nothing is more quintessentially Melbourne than defeating the undefeated early premiership favourite one week and losing to a winless cellar dweller on its way to establishing a record losing streak the next.
