2021 Player Reviews: #11 Max Gawn

Felt like he was used as a received a fair bit in the midfield this year, and added the run & carry component. The Dogga influence.

Anyone noticed how he's now pretty adept on his non-preferred foot these days, hoofing it forward? Great stuff for a ruckman when most have enough trouble with their preferred foot!

his improvements in skills are outstanding. I think hes one of our best decision makers in heavy traffic too. handballing to space especially. he has a great feel for the game.

Max - an what an appropriate name - has become the most inspiring captain in the competition.

And he and Cool Hand Luke seem to be learning skills and tricks from one another.  The best combination since Strawbs and Jimmy - even better because they both have ground skills and smarts.  Both become extra mids after the ruck contest.

R23 at Geelong - indicating to Lever where to put it.
Then our season went nuclear

Who would have imagined, when the season kicked off early last month, that Melbourne would emerge from the opening six weeks with wins over both Queensland powerhouses? At the time, Gold Coast and Brisbane were the competition’s early pace-setters, the flavours of the month, and the prospect of the Demons toppling both within the course of a fortnight seemed remote. Yet here they are, banking those scalps alongside home victories over two traditional Victorian rivals and building a quietly impressive resume.
