Dees Snubbed in 30 Over 30

I though this might have been a p**stake, expected to see the Geelong list when i opened the thread

Jeez Geelong are about to feel some pain.

If only for that ****ty home ground of theirs they'd be looking at an extended bottom four finish over the coming years.

Who have we got over 30 that's still playing a role? Gawn's the oldest in our team and isn't 39 til December .

We had the second youngest team last week and are ridiculously young, a fact I think is often overlooked by commentators.

Off the top of my head I can’t think of one 30+ player at our club that plays a regular key role. It’s a great thing for our future!

Next year we could realistically have the honorary captain and vice captain with Gawn and May both sneaking in.

I'm kind of comfortable with the fact that for the next few years we have just two more players a year crossing the threshold.

2022 Gawn and May

2023 Brown and McDonald

2024 Viney and Tomlinson

2025 Salem and Hunt

My gut says a few of those will go many years beyond 30, too.

I for one struggle to be pessimistic about a period where our current astonishing group of younger players are at their peak.

Better days ahead.

Buddy at 10 is laughable. If you were taking any of these guys on a one year deal right now he would go no.1

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
