He's just a man. He has no power to cause the calamities that have befallen Melbourne over the years. Only the Footy Gods have that power.

The footy gods are all powerful.

But not above some mischief making, as Eddie 'my old mate (insert some rich blokes name here)' McGuire recently found out.

Whilst I was excited after beating Geelong and we finished on top, for me as a supporter it’s a flag or bust. I’m sure the players would give up any individual awards if it guaranteed us a flag. Having said I truly believe this is our year and we can have it all.

How awesome!

hopefully some of their fans get to the prelim and support us and make some noise! Even if they wear their west Perth gear it’s still red and blue!

Great read, thanks.

Sensational synergy with the West Perth Football Club.  Couldn't have scripted it better:

West Perth Football Club welcomed the Demons to its facility: “It seems only appropriate we throw our support behind the red and the blue. Same song, same colours, rich history and we are on the band wagon,” the club posted on Facebook.

And the team is staying at the nearby Joondalup.

Well done to local dee fans: "WA-based Melbourne supporters club Western Demons secretary Joan Lawson, of Duncraig, said she would ring Joondalup Resort to ask if they could tie red and blue ribbons around the trees to “let the players know we’re here”.

While the team won't see us parading our colours to training etc it is good to know they will be surrounded by red and blue.

Reckon we will be the sentimental favourites for the rest of our WA journey!  Can't wait for the Prelim.

I'm not so sure about that. Premierships are so hard to win and we've got a potential opponent who's in just as good a form as us in Port Adelaide. Alternatively,  if the Dogs somehow beat Port, well then we're playing a team in arguably hotter form than Port as they would've won 3 finals in 3 different states.

Most scribes predicted us to miss the 8 and most of us supporters had us finishing 5th - 8th with a finals win being a rock solid performance.

We've exceeded expectations and a confirmed top 4 finish. And a fantastic launching pad for an assault on the next 3 to 5 premierships.

If we don't win it this year it's not a failure IMO. Our list profile suggests we're going to be in the mix for the immediate coming years.

I’ve posted this previously on a different thread.
Ports losses in 2021

Rd 3 Eagles by 37 WA
Rd 7 Lions by 49 QLD
Rd 9 Dogs by 19 AO
Rd 13 Cats by 21 AO
Rd 17 Dees by 31 AO

Ports last 4weeks :

Beat crows by 4 points

Beat Carlton by 95, Carlton had no Cripps, Williams, McKay
Curnow 2nd game back after a year.
Murphy farewell game after playing reserve’s most of season.

Beat Dogs by 2 after trailing all game. Dogs without Bruce.

Had we lost to Geelong in rd 23 Port would of finished on top having not beaten 2nd, 3rd or 4th.

Yes they comfortably beat Geelong last week but I wouldn’t personally describe their form as good as ours. This year has shown they have struggled against the top teams. I actually think if Lions will beat the Dogs and give Port a decent run.

As for the flag this year, we’ve been the best side all year, we’ve beaten every other team in the top 8, some of them twice. Think we’re the only team to do that. We have an injury free list, Petty has been settled in the side for the best part of 15-16 weeks. We have season regulars like Hibberd, Jordan and Hunt currently not playing. We have the best defence, we kept the highest scoring side (a team that beats up on weaker opponents) to a score of 60. We are settled in Perth, if we’re lucky enough to win next week our GF opponent will have to travel as well. We will have played back to back at Optus. Barring major injury or total mental breakdown this is our year, along with the next 4-5.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
