Great sentiment but real life is tougher than that.  I happen to think resilience is also a big part of this. Its not going away sadly.

We have to teach him to deal with this as well as do everything we can to call it out.

Life has a lot of hurdles and much if it isn't pretty.

So what does "toughen up" really mean? Ignore it?

So you "toughen up" and it still happens, then what ... keep letting it go?

Eddie Betts has been trying to "toughen up" after 15 years and 350 games and it still gets him down. You could see the other night he was just sick of it.

"Toughening up" can be used by those who don't want to actually deal with the racism, because it's too hard. We still need to fight against it and raise it when it happens. It's like bullying. Trying to tell someone to toughen up against bullying just panders to the bully and excuses their behaviour.

Kozzie needs to know that the large majority of football supporters (especially Melbourne) love him and respect him, and will call out racism when it happens. That they will support him when he calls it out himself. Not be simply told to "toughen up" and let it persist.

Taking a stand is the real "toughening up" and we all need to do it. Otherwise Nicky Winmar, Heritier Lamumba and Adam Goodes haven't taught us anything.

I am merely playing devil’s advocate here, but judging what happened to Yassmin Abdel-Magied, I’m guessing their reaction would not be so restrained.

To me, those who make the call to ‘keep PC out of sports’ are happy if values are expressed through sports, so long as it’s their own values.

P.S. That said, there were probably a few other reasons the reactionary media complex and their assorted troglodytes and acolytes went after Yassmin with as much venom as they did. We all know those reasons. Bear that in mind in regards to the treatment Kozzie got on SNS.

Another long winded sermon.

I never thought I'd see Demonland used to defend the entitled, pompous, windbag Yasmin Abdel Magied.

I recall her on Q& A telling us Sharia Law was great for women & that Islam was actually a Femminist religion.

Having a crap game Given the week maybe should not have played anyway

Looks like Pickett has some serious resilience. Worked hard to keep himself involved and turned a very quiet start into a wholly respectable small forward's game. Not the first time he's done it over the course of a game, too. It's a priceless trait in a small forward.

Then there's the way he pushed himself in the preseason despite being away from the club for a while to mourn his mother.

I think we can all set aside any questions about Pickett's 'mental toughness'.

Hey Faulty - I'll be honest, when I saw that you responded to my comment I was prepping for an online stoush. Your response gives me greater insight to your character. We obviously don't agree on most things political, but let's share a beverage next time you're up north in Cairns, if you fancy. Ronnie.

You're from Cairns? The most beautiful place in Australia for me.

Had my lovely wife there for her birthday earlier this year and promised to be back there soon because we both loved it so much.

You're on mate.

We all feel for Kozzie only a kid who is working hard to build a career in the AFL. It is so frustrating to see fellow Australian’s deliberately trying to hurt indigenous players in the sport, I know that there will always be sad people that like to strike out at others to try and make themselves feel better and it is impossible to eradicate this blight on society. All that we can do is continually support our indigenous players as strongly as we can and let them know that they are highly regarded and loved. Like Deeva I love Kozzie.💕💕

Just floating around avoiding lockdowns until I can go back overseas but have lived here and in Port Douglas and the Daintree for a number of years since my teens. Indeed, not just Australia - one of the most beautiful spots in the world.

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
