Interesting to hear so many other AFL players out there when this incident occurred, is it common for there to be clumps of AFL players out? Are there pubs/nightclubs that are known AFL player hotspots?

Pity that Caroline Wilson’s on leave and therefore not available to carry out a full and proper investigation of the incident from all sides.

I’m old now so no idea these days, but back in the day when I was going out to clubs, there were places known for their “footy players”. The promoters would pay players to attend to draw a crowd. It was generally a mix of different players from different clubs. They were often very drunk as everyone would buy them drinks. I’ve lost a lot of respect for lots of Hawthorn players as they were overall the worst behaved.

I would hope in 2021, and with an 8-0 start that our players can make a commitment to themselves not to be out and partying during the season.
I also think we are lucky that many of our players, even the younger ones, seem to be in serious long term relationships. Some are even parents.

Jake Niall seems to have filled that void with this doozy:

"The first factor was that the players, who might have had a couple of drinks, had not been intoxicated....Second, the incident was said to have taken place just after midnight, rather than in a dangerous time slot around 2am or later"

Whenever I see Tom Browne I cringe...might be a nice bloke to his mates but comes across as a total DH...

I'm sure there were 100's of other people in the club at the same time...maybe he should just name them all.

Or maybe this is even better...Max Gawn wasn't seen at yo yo club on Saturday night, no suggestion he knows anything about the incident or did anything wrong.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
