How Geelong does it

Are Geelong leading the field with there new trading strategy? It has never been done before, it could be as smart as north Melbourne where in the 70's with the new 10 year rule, will other clubs head down the Geelong path, it could be a stroke of genius.

We have AFL and AFLW already. AFLM is the logical next step and Geelong have well and truly got the AFL Masters covered...they could even bring back Gary (maybe both of them?).

Everyone in the media are creaming themselves over Smith a higgings coming into Geelong, I can see a cliff coming for Geelong, the walking sticks will come out at about round 18.

Yes, and depending what GWS can prise out of them for Cameron, it may be that Geelong will hardly be touching this draft.

Higgins got North pick 30 at 33yo, surprising.

A lot of Geelong’s recruiting begins years ahead of the actual move. They’ve been chasing Higgins for 10 years plus, and into Cameron for the last 5 or so.

Their regional setting and links to the far reaches of the south west through the falcons, mean they have an inherent advantage to recruiting these types.

Whether it’s a good strategy or not remains to be seen.

How Geelong does it???

Well they haven't since 2011 and don't look like it any time soon.

Chasing a flag & topping up with 2x 32yo in Higgins & Smith to add to how many 30+ yo on their list? High risk?

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
