This is almost exactly what I was saying above though.

External group isnt happy with the current board performance. Instead of a divisive, public board challenge, the groups talk it through, and move forward together. Collectively there is now an otherwise unknown view on the board, theoretically making it better and more diverse.

This risk is that its a token appointment, and the original board is just placating them, and gives them no real involvement or input.

If the external group spends 12-24 months on the board and either feels like nothing is improving, then it might run a full challenge.

If the placating appointment is only given lip service and no real input but dont complain, the board will let then run their course, they obviously dont know what they are taking about.

IMO another year like 2020 and the board should all stand down.

We have not had a member contestant vote in 15 years. Now remind me how that 15 years has played out! Oh that's right we made a brief finals  appearance in one year and rest we have been irrelevant to the competition.

The last board challenge was Jimmy's takeover. Not one to recommend given the outcome, but no-one could have predicted the main guy was to be struck with a fatal illness within a year of taking over.

As for B Green he does have some business background but that's not much relevance to being football director. Most clubs have someone with recent on-field experience to enlighten the Board on footy matters. Leoncelli was football director for a while. Not sure when he finished or who replaced him.

Would seem more useful than sitting on the Board. Time will tell, but at this stage i don’t see Brad as an executive

But he is there so i do hope it works

See this is where you're showing you have no idea about what the Board does.  Except for an Executive Director the Board does not have executive roles.  If Green was working directly with the FD he would be closer to being an executive.

You were happy with this year? What should have been a finals year was trashed.

Then what is he doing sitting on the Board?

Any expertise he has is communicating directly with the Football Department

No, I wasn't happy, but there is grey, you know, OD. I wouldn't be getting the entire board to step down because we finished 9th. That's knee-jerk ridiculousness.

The Football Manager and the Coach will report periodically to the Board, he is Football Director is there to understand and interpret the message.  Modern football is very complex and it requires a deep understanding.

Yes i am well aware of this.
i have dealt with large organisations to get things done quite often

You'd think the President's position will be untenable if we fail to make finals and can't find a permanent home.

Promises made and promises not kept and all that.

Yep. Balls on the line. We need to get things done

Not just promise them

Old Dee spends all her time complaining, you won't be able to find 1 positive post ever from her, even you have positive things to say now and then.

You would be changing the president ever year, making finals is one thing, the Homebase is very complicated, where is the space that's close to the MCG, that won't get complaints   by residents in that area, will it have to be at the docklands somewhere?, Or  could the Bentleigh club torn down and an oval put their.

No I wouldn’t be changing Presidents every year.

Can you please learn to punctuate a sentence before telling me what i think.

I said if they did the same next year.

And I'm saying if we finished second last again then sure, otherwise IMV you don't have your whole board stand down over something like that.

That's why the dees never get anywhere because we accept mediocrity.

So it's burn it down to the ground or accept mediocrity as the only two alternatives? Must be a pretty boring black and white world you live in, OD.

they write books about MFC mediocrity.

I think the idea of replacing an entire Board in one go is a terrible idea and entirely destabilising.

That said, I think we could happily lose a few of them. With one exception, the Board is a bunch of same-age, same-gender old world types of overlapping, and in some cases, modest skills. It’s definitely not a new-world Board and I can’t imagine our Board meetings are particularly dynamic.

Personally I think it could use a modest shake-up. I’m not sure how I feel about Green’s appointment but just the fact that we’ll have someone <45yo is a win.

They got $80mil+ worth of bonuses and people are worroed about $20k of watches?

Bringing her down for this is a political stunt. If it was really an issue, the obscene salaries and bonuses wouldn't occur in the first place.

Bur that being said, Eddie is part of those obscene dollars.

Asolutely.

But I'd say don't hate the players, hate the game.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds.
This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?
