I think we have to play Weideman or even Brown to see if they can make a difference. Not holding my breath though.

I agree 100%.

Just thought it goes to show how much we miss that second key forward that even old dee is asking for Weideman to get selected.

Yes you know I am no big fan however we renewed his contract last year which says the FD believe he is a future KPF.

And how do you know his lack of development is not due to the ball delivery we give him,  when in the seniors.   Because we all know how bad our delivery into F50 has been.

Is TMc's poor form due to the Weide's fault as well.?

Our dysfunctional forward-line has been an issue since the turning century,  & throughout the 2000's.

Think back to us getting Miller,  to add some hardness to our team.  poor guy.

Its been an issue delivering good footy into our F50 since at least 2001.

We should look elsewhere to find fault at  why we've been crarp in the front half for so long.

#PS:  Any forward-line can function well,  when the team isn't placed under any pressure.

And by the way when have we ever had hard nosed mids who run both ways,  and defend hard against their opponents...   None apart from our taggers.

Here’s a radical thought:

I honestly don’t know why he doesn’t play all 3, tmac, Weid, Brown, Kozzie, Fritter, Melksham with Hannam/Hunt on the bench, with Trac and Brayshaw rotating throwing there with Hannan/melk in the guts.

If we’re going to continue to bomb it in, give the big boys a chance, just instruct them to not all jump at the same ball.

we cannot continue to do the exact same thing every week.

Salem looks like a player that's been overloaded with instructions. Playing on instinct he goes quick and 9 out of 10 finds a good target. Lately he's taking far longer to make a decision, ignoring easy options, and doing the old long down the line trick

I would like to see Salem on a wing again.   Now he's on top of his medical issues.

This way he can contribute to better F50 entries.

So:  with that move Tomlinson to CHB,.  as a hard running attacking player.   Who runs/carries, and delivers into F50,  and then stays a kick behind the play.

Put Salem onto that wing position;  with occasional stints inside the mids.

Have Langdon run hard 2 ways,  and assist the defenders when the ball is with the opposition.  sweeper.

Put Clarrie and Brayshaw on notice,  to bust a gut helping our defenders,  when we don't have control of the footy.

I'm with you on that. As long as they work hard on their leading patterns too, three talls might just be the change we need up forward, and something we haven't had for a while.

Dangerfield and Selwood both with repeat efforts at playing and diving for frees. Expected but doesn’t make it any easier to watch, pathetic.

When we lost to them at Geelong in 2018 by a kick after the siren Dangerfield milked that ruck infringement free against Brayshaw which cost us a goal.

Again yesterday he milked a 50m penalty by diving to the ground, which led to a Duncal goal. And again we lost by less than a kick.

I have huge respect for the football ability of Danger - he is a joy to watch with his speed and power and ball winning and marking ability. But he is a repeat offender in staging and that takes away from people's respect for him as a sportsman. He won't care as he has the 4 points, but you look at a bloke like Lenny Hayes and understand why he is so universally admired and it's little wonder why there is a bit of a dislike of Danger in the footy public.

So now we're trying to be the Tigers off Old...   are we.?

get a clue you people.  you obviously think our list is more advanced that it is/was,  because of 2018.    WAKE UP.!!!  Our best players from back then are now 2 years older...  and facing retirement, or have retired.

Not using as an excuse, but should have TMac received a free for that front on contact in the 3rd?

OK I'll answer my own question. Whilst you can contact to a degree with front on spoiling, don't think you can take out the whole body as what happened on this occasion.

He needs to start putting them on notice, come in and preform (forward pressure, running patterns, blocking for one another) or you’re out of the side.  I’d love to see some offensive for once, swing the pockets, block for one another to create space.  Two forwards drag their defenders up the field to create space... give us something different....

Goodwin can't coach.

Are you apart of the group trying to oust the cioach so we can bring some old boys back into the club... so we can be all back together again.  I suppose you want Robbo as forward coach as well.

Yze, Robbo and Brucey woocy.

Fantastic,  you lot will kill the club off.    Trying to unsteady the ship,  that is progressing,    and finally recruiting better than we have in the past 25 Years.those old club culturee do not leave overnight and Roosy did not remove it all when he was with us.

He just got our socks back on again,  and up on our feet.   And then he left us.

Not sure why you are defending him MFM.

He keeps doing the same things every week with the same result this has been going for on 3 years.
we will finish near the bottom again in 2020 and hand North a very early draft pick.

The game plan is crap if there is one. Add the players don't seem to know what to do.

The game plan is all about developing players;  so some are out of best positions so others can develop. see brayshaw, harmes etc.

If we want to develop Rivers into the team and Pickett into the team then some others have to suffer some change.

Petracca into the Mids,  means one other goes out to another spot. No.?    Is this not a positive, Petracca's fitness, and form.?

Jones is out so other kids are in. what a huge sacrifice for our future.

See... we are not selecting for this years Flag. because we are not good enough to be it.  Where do Rivers and Pickett develop when there isn't a decent 2nd tier competition for them. Where do Brown,  Weide, Sparrow, and others develop properly.

We are selecting sides now to develop young players,  so we can become a power club for the next 5 - 7 Yrs.  wWhich is what we need to do

I have been hearing that for a decade or more.

If you continue to lose games there will be no future and no development to worry about.

Brendan Bolton found out the hard way, it's one thing to develop the kids ... but you have to WIN GAMES at the same time.

And you profess to know how to develop a team,  with few mature leaders  and coming off years of bad losses;  and a lot of kids coming thru over that period of time.?   OD.?

Take it from me,  its nothing to do with game style,  and all about just allowing players to grow into the game,  as the main goal. winning is 2nd to learning atmo, because we just not good enough thru the whole list.

Our better talents are all young and have to be played in a competive side. winning is the 2nd priority to these jids learning/developing.

Look at our list,  we are not in a premiership window right now with jetta and jones at the end,  and maxy almost at the 30yr mark.

IF we do not do this now;  then when these 28Yr old to 30Yr olds retire,  will be in a bigger hole, at that point in time.

We have some cream talent now and that needs developing.

If those who want us to go for this years flag now,   then bring Nev and Jones back in, and put Harmes back into the guts,  and Petracca back to half forward.

Bit this will set us back, it will upset Jackson and Pickett,  and other kids who need decent standard game to grow.

The only proof is the score board.  It don’t look flash and we are terrible to watch

THE GOOD...

Petracca: Continuing a fine year and, along with Gawn, is one of the few showing the ability to tear a game apart.  His confidence is building and you can see that he is starting to treat tacklers with complete disdain in the style of Dusty Martin in 2017.  Was amongst our best again yesterday, but still seems to be building his belief; when he gets there, look out!

Team Defense and pressure: While our focus has been upon our inability to build scoreboard pressure and kick a winning score, it should also be noted that we kept Geelong to the lowest score by a winning team so far this year.  Yes, the quality of the match was lacking, but this is a Geelong team with the capability to kick big scores with 73, 108, and 77 leading into today's 47.  The biggest change to last year is our team's ability to keep pressure on the ball carrier, and whilst it's still not at the level I'd like to see it, it is infinitely better that the cricket scores we were conceding this time last season.  Unlike round 2, we were able to maintain the physicality and pressure after the first quarter and barring a lapse in the third, it was a much better sustained effort that rounds one and two.  Lever, May, Salem and Hibberd, whilst not individually starring, are not conceding... which is the primary role of a defensive unit.

Speed: Two things needed to be addressed on-field after 2019, first being some outside skills to complement our inside grunt, the the second was footspeed. It's quite telling that Geelong went into the game with an altered gameplan to combat our leg-speed, where they tried to maintain possession and keep us from running through a turnover.  Our team looks significantly faster this year and whilst the balance may not be quite right between marking targets and small running types, it certainly seemed to be addressed.  Whilst Tomlinson rightfully copped criticism for some turnovers in the last, the final 4 minutes of the game demonstrated his running power.

THE KINDA GOOD...

Pickett: Jackovich had IT, Farmer had IT, Jurrah had IT and now Kossi has it.  He'd have learnt a lot from yesterday, particularly a couple of moments in the first quarter where he misjudged the pace of the game at this level, but you feel he is close to ripping a game apart.  He is the kind of player that opposition players and coaches dread as even if he is kept down for three quarters, he doesn't need much time to do a lot of damage.  That's high praise for a player who didn't do any of that today, but you can see that it's there.

Rivers: Really impressed by Rivers and, in many ways, it's a credit to him that people aren't falling over themselves with praise for the young man.  He has slotted in so seamlessly that most wouldn't even notice that yesterday was his second game.  Whist not dominant, he is quick, aggressive, skilled and found himself standing alongside Gary Ablett Jr throughout the afternoon and didn't seems over-awed.  He seems to have the temperament of a ten year half-back.

McDonald: I am now coming to accept that TMac will not be the player that he was in 2018.  That player was strong overhead, lethal when kicking and was able to motor around the field and run defenders into the ground.  There is no doubt something physical that is stopping him from playing that way and he is seemingly carrying far more weight than ever before.  With that said... perhaps yesterday we saw a new model of Tom McDonald.  A big, bustling forward who can provide a target, crash the packs, bring the ball to ground and catch a few along the way.  If that is the case, then hopefully we can see Weideman join him sooner rather than later, but after yesterday I'm feeling a bit more confident about what McDonald can provide this year.

Midfield: They're all up and running - Viney, Oliver, Gawn, Harmes, even Brayshaw showed some positive signs.  However, whilst they dominated Geelong's much vaunted on-ballers, we're not converting this into clean, fluent possession.  Langdon struggled to get involved yesterday due to Geelong's efforts to slow down and congest the match.  The ability to find an outside runner was identified by Geelong as an area to pressure us in and, for the most part, it worked.

THE NOT SO GOOD...

Melksham: When Melbourne is at it's best, Melksham's left foot is lethal.  His strength and power either delivering to a team mate or kicking for goal is the steadying influence and impact that our team needs.  This was left wanting yesterday as several key opportunities were missed or fumbled.  He's a long way out of form and, if this match was played two years ago, he would have nailed at least three goals yesterday.  Not sure what to do about this one, as he's a class player and they can usually turn things around very quickly, but like Fritsch, he's missing so many opportunities that he's something of a liability at this stage.

Conversion: We're working way to hard for our goals and, as someone said in the gameday thread, our scores come from individual brilliance rather than a coherent system.  Too many fumbles and not enough poise forward of centre is seeing players succumb, more often than not, to perceived pressure.  More players were lowering their eyes yesterday, which is encouraging, but we're a long way off a team that can reliably kick a winning score.  Hunt was missing yesterday and Hannan struggled to find space and was largely ineffective.

Energy and Enthusiasm: It really seemed to be lacking yesterday.  I liked the attack on the ball and the pressure on the opposition, but the team looked very flat and joyless yesterday.  There was very little fire and encouragement yesterday throughout the match, even after Brayshaw kicked the final goal.

I feel like the Dees can be outcoached easily, because if they're not on a roll and pulling off the higher risk plays down the corridor, their fundamentals just aren't at the level of their opponents. I mean it was pretty impressive (albeit boring) seeing Geelong play keepings off. There is no way we could adapt our gamestyle to that kind of strategy. Also, I think it's time to stick with a chosen 'best 22' and give them more time together, especially in this interrupted season. TMac is borderline gone for mine...almost clunked a few marks, which may have got him going, but he's just too lacking in confidence too much of the time. Maybe time to have faith in Weid for a few games? It's a tough one...
