Alex Rance Retires

I don't know that there would be too many on here that wouldn't have loved the option of being able to "retire" when they were 30 - so all credit and best wishes to him.

Interesting to read where it took many years before it all clicked and he became a good player - 7 years it took before his first AA selection. The description of his early years sounds almost like they could be describing OMAC. We can only hope OMAC turns out half as good.

I just don't think Oscar has the pace and agility to be anywhere near as good as Rance was, but i'll be pretty happy if he can prove me wrong one day.

I think the Tigers would be secretly spewing that they didn't take a solid defender like Gould, Rivers or Worrell with pick 21 now that Rance has decided to peddle the Watchtower instead of playing out his contract.

People can wax lyrical all they like about him, he's broken his contract and sold his club up the river. If there was even an inkling this was going to happen, why didn't he take a shorter contract ?

Fair bit of hyperbole and supposition there.

Maybe it was a mutual agreement and benefited the Tigers as well. Who the f knows. Certainly frees up a large chunk of cap space.

Usually things aren't as black and white as some are led to believe.

Doesn't that ignore what they could of done in trading this year ?

Or what they can now do in next year's draft/s, or how they can use this cap space to secure current players, or how they can balence their list now that Grimes has stepped up, yadda yadda yadda.

It could benefit both parties. As I said, who the f knows.

Surprised (or missed it) that no one commented on Hogan vs Rance, I enjoyed that...

Also I seem to remember a classic Rance dive when Chris Dawes put him to sleep in the pocket (he made a joke about that during the sleep out thingy)

But as already cited nothing gives quote the joy of watching Viney put him on his [censored] (or he flopped again) after the Watts shot. Viney warms the heart with his fierce backing of his team.

Anyway, good luck to him, god bothering will suit him well.

Just flicked Fox Sports News on and saw in breaking news Rance has announced his retirement effective immediately.

Reckon we wait for the mid season draft and pick him up. Could be a handy addition with the run up to finals.
