Who will be the first to post pictures of the  new draftees?

Won't be me, working on Monday, saving till Wednesday when Bennell and Brown will also be there

Just a note on training

They have a grappling/wrestling/tackling coach, he used to appear maybe one session a week if that

He is there every session at the moment, obviously another area of weakness they have identified

This bloke is hopefully only a week away from joining in some main group drills, same with Petty,  who is a seriously sized human being now   next photo

Just an interesting fact I learnt yesterday

The AFL now has 1400 yes 1400 accredited 'journalists' on its books

It has long been known within us media types that AFL journalists outnumber all other journalist types in Oz.  It’s an indictment in the media landscape.  Proper investigative journalism is thwarted by big media to allow the powers that be escape accountability.

so 2 journos for every listed player (18 x 44 = 792).......no wonder media is overflowing with carp

They hand out 1400 media passes so they can revoke them if they don't like the coverage.

But the amount of full time journos covering the game is probably declining. Channel 7 and AFL media give it a fair go, but otherwise I'm sure the age and the HS don't cover the game like they used to.

Houses still standing in the background of that last pic. Obviously not training hard enough.

They are Collingwood houses..... ours have already been converted to parkland to train on.

I think there's no coincidence that our strong run at the end of 18 started around the time AVB got going.

I'd like to see Dusty try the "don't argue" on AVB on ANZAC Eve.

Did you notice if Petty was training with the forwards or backs mate?

To cover the play of 720 players, almost  2 " journalists" ( I use that term loosely ) for every player.

Do they pay a fee to be accredited ? Is the only reason I could see for having that many.

He is in rehab at the moment, supposedly out of there in 1 or 2 weeks

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?

  • FEATURE: 1925

A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.
