“He showed he’s a very capable AFL player. He’s a very balanced person, he’s mature, he’s played a lot of VFL footy and he was just ready for the next step. As he got more and more experience, he looked more and more comfortable at AFL level. He had a little stint of injury and had to go through the VFL again, but finished the year strong by working his way back into the AFL team.” - Matt Egan MFC Head of Player Development

A great pick-up for MFC stepped in and filled a number of roles for the Dee's at crucial times, I hope that he continues to improve his ball use and holds down a spot in our best 22 - 25 players. - Well done Marty Hore.............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Certainly exceeded expectations given his low draft pick and poor debut game. Needs to make significant improvements in his defensive work and his disposal to play regularly next year because there is no way that he and Lever can play in the same team. He should be aspiring to push Hibberd out of the team by mid season.

A little contradictory, or at least confusing.

Does you actually mean that there cannot be Hibberd, Hore and Lever in the same side or that even if he displaces Hibberd he still couldn't. work with Lever?

I hope I’m wrong but I’m concerned Hore is OK at many things, but not AFL standard in enough things except his marking.

Not big enough to defend a true big forward or fast enough on the lead.

Not athletic/agile enough to defend a small or medium forward.

Disposal/decision making not good enough to be a distributor.

As per @poita’s post, Lever is better at what Hore is best at and I struggle to see them both in the same team.

I think Hore is solid depth, especially if Lever gets injured again, but I can’t see him holding down a first 22 position in the backline.

There’s a reason he was a prominent VFL player for a while yet wasn’t drafted.

Hibberd and Jetta look to be the incumbents closest to being over the hill, so maybe Hore can be trained hard to improve his deficiencies to take over from one of them. Needs to work on agility to be like a Jetta, or straight line pace to be like Hibberd.

He shouldn’t ever lose his ability to read a ball in the air and mark it as that’s probably a reasonably natural talent for him.

Hore has been a great pick up for the Dees & proved his worth time & time again.....

His kicking however is horrible......often kicks blindly & if he can improve in this area & show more composure, he will be a cracker.

From all reports a great fella too....

Love his intercept marking.   Was in the top couple in the league  before he was injured.

Reckon he was top (from a small sample) for one week or so.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
