Er why Jetta?, signed a 3 yr contract last yeat

Jetta's form on return late in the season was like much of  the team. 2020 is his chance to show that he still has it or he will finish 2021 at Casey.

Weideman has  a similar length contract but if his 2020 is like his 2019 he will most likely be  a bust.

Not saying either of them can't continue but merely that 2020 is a very big year for so many. You can add AVB, Joel Smith and KK to the list.

Funny, I don’t feel negative. I don’t even feel negative about Hannan. I just don’t know if he is the real deal or not and since he comes out of contract at the end of the year I think it is safe to say he needs to show something this year to keep his spot. I am not talking about this year as his biggest problem, I’m talking about his total body of work. No doubt he can do some great things in bursts, also no doubt he can run and mark. I have just watched him float in and out of too many games. I can’t tell if it is just needing some time to get used to the pace at AFL or a constant string of injuries, some of which we may not know about, or maybe he is just always going to be a burst player.

I’ve never commented on Spargo but since you mention it, I think he too will be watched this year. He showed some good progress in his first year but has shown a woeful lack of both effectiveness and pressure this year and his stats are abysmal. I’m of the camp that you need to give players a chance to showcase a body of work before you can properly tell. Probably the coaches get a lot of that knowledge from watching them train as well, for me I only get a good look on game day so that’s all I can judge by.

I’m no footy guru, but even I know that to improve year on year, you have to keep separating the wheat from the chaff. It has to not be personal. I would love to see both Hannan and Spargo really take a step and cement their spots this season, I just note that If they don’t, they should expect that their places in the side will be at risk. Neither of them has shown enough yet to be spared the reaper’s blade due to past greatness.

It's a real balance. In hindsight JKH, VDB and Stretch have been given way too much time. All have shown glimpses. VDB perhaps more than the other two but has been injury prone.

Some just take longer to get there. Jetta is a case in point.

And then its not like you can just wave a wand and replace 10 players with 10 ready made players.

A list manager has a tough job.

I doubt anyone is assessing Hannan on 2019, He barely played. But in the two years previous he did go missing for large chunks of games. That's one of his challenges in 2020 - to be involved in games for longer & to contribute even when he's not getting the pill.

Spot on Biff.

Most of the negative comments about players are in the back half and fringe on baller types.  But when you look at the side, you just wonder where the goals are going to come from.   We need 250 plus goals to be succesful in a year which means we need lots of 20-30 goal a season players.  Hannan is one of the possibilities, so I just hope he can get back to 2018 form and stay injury free.

Spot on stinga, even last year we plenty of forward enters but a high percentage achieved zero. IMO the forward line is our biggest problem.

Goodwin playing Fritsch down back didn't help.

Is Hannan in full training or in rehab due to his surgery?

Pretty sure I heard him mentioned as back last week as he’s a 1-4 yr player...

Biggest problem with him is he is a one quarter a game player. Has a good quarter then vanishes for the rest of the game. I fear he is the classic too good for VFL but just NGE at senior level.

Agree Old Dee.....His highlight package is good but very short & unfortunately has been gifted a lot of games when he was clearly injured or struggling to put 2 quarters together. Can't have that at this level anymore, unless your in the 'boys club'......

Agreed he definitely needs to be more consistent - but there aren't too many mid-sized forwards around that don't have a tendency to fade in and out of games. Partly the nature of the position he plays I reckon.

1-2 goals, a dozen clean disposals and a few I50 tackles each week and he's doing his job.

He needs to add to his role. Being a small forward isn't the problem. The problem is if you base your game solely around crumbs falling your way, and getting a loose ball out the back then your a extremely limited to opportunities to impact the game. He needs to know when he needs to crumb, know when to run out the back for the loose ball, but also involve himself by being an option for short hit ups around the 70m mark as opposed to the long bomb, fwd half stoppages, switches out of the back 50 etc. Being so one dimensional so much of his game is left to chance

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
