SEN SA I am pretty sure Cane Comes was asking questions

Cheers for that.

Found the link here:

Simon Goodwin might feel a bit threatened with both Alan Richardson and Mark "Choco" Williams breathing over his shoulders. But some times pressure is a good thing.

Nevertheless, I am still keen on Mark "Choco" Williams being involved as a development coach.

The more good quality football people we can attract to the Demons the better.

After 2019 We need as many good people as we can get, agreed

Goodwin hangs by mere threads, although having heard Craig Jennings interviewed by Whately each week, it may have been him who confused the whole Football Department!!

Gotta let the message sink in.

And the same Mark "Choco" Williams who won the 2004 Premiership for Port Adelaide and was a positive influence in helping Dustin Martin develop into a great player? Yes.

If you have better solutions to our current predicament then please feel free to enlighten us.

I'd change the Senior Coach personally. Alan Richardson is a good start too. Yze would be handy; Adrian Hickmont; Justin Longmuir; Leigh Tudor. These sort of guys.

Doesn't it strike you as odd that Williams hasn't managed to get another job since 2016? In the meantime, the side he coached at has won two premierships without him.

Heard Choco on the Radio this morning

I would love to have him employed at the MFC.

He still has a genuine passion for players and the game

Was it merely coincidence he was let go (along with 2 other line coaches) at the end of 2016 and they went on to win a premiership the following year?

Too many voices syndrome from those who "know better" maybe?  He was apparently credited somewhat with developing Dusty & Rance in a hands on type role.  Macca comes to mind although i'm not sure Macca had the same effect with any players particularly, do we need another in that vein when we've just offloaded someone somewhat similar?

Do you trust Goodwin after 2019?

i don’t think he had any idea what to do after things started to go sour

I understand the criticisms of Mark "Choco" Williams. I just believe he deserves another chance in the AFL and is highly rated as a development coach. Even this year in 2019 he has done a remarkable job coaching Werribee in the VFL.

I am open to the Demons chasing Adrian Hickmont and Leigh Tudor too. Justin Longmuir has snagged the Fremantle coaching job because of the good work he has done at West Coast and Collingwood. But there must be other coaches out there keen to be an assistant coach at the Demons.

In all honesty, as long the Demons find good quality football people to help form part of our new football department in 2020 that is all I care about.

We need to get the right football people who are determined and of good character at our club to help us break this Premiership drought.

It's one of those things.
Williams has years of experience in dealing with footballers and an insatiable desire to win.
Sometimes I think these blokes are tossed onto the scrap heap too early.
Probably needs to be willing to use some of the fresh ideas of a couple younger assistants.

Well he certainly couldn't rally the troops when the season was gone.
Instead of fighting the season out they appeared to give up.
Which isn't what you want to see.

I certainly wouldn't have signed him for another three years SW.  The first half of 2020 will tell the tale as will the opening game.

Three year extension on a coach that's new to the game is the AFL / team sport equivalent definition of pure insanity.

Only the MFC.

The problems are chronic.

Years of failure, low membership (which will be worse next year), lack of funds/resources.

Players at clubs like Geelong, Hawthorn and now Richmond are prepared to sign on for less money than they could get elsewhere because they see the value in potentially playing in premiership sides. Not so with the Demons. I don't know how much Brayshaw is being paid, but I suspect it is more than he would get at one of the clubs I've mentioned. So that has an impact on the salary cap.

Similarly, star players (e.g. Lynch) don't want to come to the club. MFC needs someone like him ... or Cameron. No chance.

So the rich get richer and ... well you know the point.

As for resources, when De Goey was injured they flew him to Germany for treatment. I doubt that MFC would have the money to do that.

The big clubs' medical/development departments seem so much better equipped resourced than ours.

Having regard to this, it makes the Bulldogs' premiership win all the more amazing. And Leceister in the EPL. Of course, in each case sustained success was not achieved. For my part, one premiership would be enough ... after supporting the team for 51 years!!

Rant over ...

I'm sure they sent Lever to the USA to receive expert rehab on his knee?

I stand corrected. FWIW, De Goey's injury was far less serious.

But my overall point remains the same.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
