Enthusiasm. Hunting the footy. Create turnovers. Edwards Rioli Baker Higgins Castagna Bolton. All small but intense players.

1- Richmond put the opposition under extreme pressure. A forward press that strangles your movement. They hunt in packs. They block space. They tackle.

2- run from defence. REBOUND GOALS. They run and run. They catch you on the rebound. Their skills and pace can tear you apart. QUICK BALL MOVEMENT

3- one percenters. They break tackles by getting their arms free. They shepherd for each other.  They push, punch or force the ball forward.

4- Repeat score chances. they keep the ball inside forward 50. They kill contests. They create crumbs for small forwards.

5- Dustin Martin. His confidence and leadership drives the style of play. His attack on the footy.

How to beat them?  Watch the Pies in 2018 prelim.

Take your chances. Move the footy. Skilled footskills. Break their tackles. Run your Guts out. Prepare for battle. Pace through the midfield.

The 2019 Demons will struggle to deliver that.

We are all but cooked . They're small players will run rings around us. the way they are going and we are going.   It won't be pretty, it's gonna be ugly.

They will destroy us by 8+ goals. Their linking and coherence going forward even with key players out puts us to shame.

We have no chance whatever

The MFC players dont get it...but then they never have really. It's quite funny that the Dogs, Tigers and almost the Pies won flags with lesser talent but great defensive pressure,  yet we've once again decides it's just not for us. Your defensive intensity drives your offence. It does so for pretty much every team ball sport in the world.

The Golden State Warriors have more talent than any basketball team in history, yet when they get lazy on defence their offence stalls and they can get beat by anyone.

Once again the supporters have contributed to the state of affairs. The adulation for this group after last years run, despite it finishing with a 'half 186' on preliminary final day obviously had to contribute to the chest puffing that has accompanied a playing group that actually look like a bunch of new born giraffes at times.

The crap people are spouting about Goodwin is also counter productive. Yeah his plan may not be great and he needs to make changes. I'm sure he knows that and he's working on it. I have more faith in him than the players given he doesn't have a history of shirking his responsibilities. All the talk about him just once again provides the players an excuse for being uncommitted chest puffers.

Let's change the coach. Definitely a great idea...it's worked before hasn't it??? Players were crap at the end of Daniher when they decided they knew better than he did, and they've been utter crap under every coach since (including Roos who had to go into legacy protection mode by flooding the backline when he pretty quickly realised that the work isn't something our playing group feel is expected ).

We have a fierce attack on the footy too.

Trouble is, we're like that cartoon dog who gets into a scrap, huge clouds of dust billow up, and when the dust has cleared he's left there chewing his own foot.

Our defenders... now the AFL has turned US inside out,  again,  with a rule named in our Honor.

Honestly, Id be shocked if we got within 60 points of them.

They beat Sydney with ease, barely raised a sweat.  They are hardened, well drilled and likely get Riewoldt back.

Excellent post blaming the coach is way to easy. Yes the players are to blame but getting ahead of themselves reflect an overall club culture than accept mediocrity. Good club would not pat themselves on the back for being flogged in a prelim.

i agree rufus.

Stifling the opposition in Finals,  is Premiership Modus.

But why is it whenever this Mfc gets to become genuine Finals contenders...   do our players start to gloat inwardly, silently,  and drop they're work efforts...  and their mindsets.?

It happens at other clubs occasionally.

.

Why does this Happen at Melbournefc,  mostly ?   and regularly.  This is so F&$*ing tiring.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
