Keep up the great support ?

If Vince and Lewis were to retire at season's end we'd probably be last on that list next year

Not necessarily, as the figures are average median games played, as opposed to average mean/average.

Also for those who are interested:

2014: Dom Tyson

2015: Hogan, Lever, Brayshaw, Viney

2016: Hogan, Lever, Trac, Viney, Kent, Hunt

2017: Hunt, Oliver, Trac, OMac, Lever

2018: ANB, Harmes, Trac, Oliver, Brayshaw, Fritch

Although it’s not finals, it’s an indication that we actually have good players now (earlier versions of the 22 under 22 were not good reading for us).

13 players have been nominated in the last 5 years:

Backs: Lever, OMac, Hunt

Mids: Brayshaw, Oliver, Viney, Harmes, Tyson,

Forwards: Hogan, Trac, Fritch, ANB, Kent

add AA squad recipients Gawn, Hibbard, Garlett, Jetta (and Lever) ..... it’s not a bad 18 players with captain Jones.

The arguments above are right - our “core” is sooooooo young and we aren’t really ready for another year - but here is hoping a final or 2 this year!

The club has been at pains to point to media and the like that 2020 is when they think the window will actually open for us based upon the list demographic - basically when our core young have hit that mystical 70-100 game mark

How they factor in the loss of Vince, Lewis, and Jones and Jetta etc being closer to the end within that I have zero idea

Vince impact minimal this year.

Jones has been average.

Jetta good but seems to be carrying multiple injuries

Lewis still okay but slowing.

I wouldn’t have any of them in our best 8 players. Oliver, Gawn, TMac, Viney, Hibberd, Brayshaw, Hogan & Lever.

Hopefully a nice little wake up call for him, certainly won't hurt him and hopefully burns inside. He certainly has the talent, but like many demons before him, talent will only get you so far.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.

  • GAMEDAY: West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?

  • FEATURE: 1925

A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.
