Alice Springs - 2017

Excitement plus! I've decided as a memorial to my Dad to attend the game on the date of his death. It happens to be in Alice this year...which I have never been to before. Do Demonlanders go there? If so, does anyone recommend a hotel in particular. It would be nice to meet up with a few who are going and wax lyrical etc etc. In info is good info!

And what should I expect from Alice? And how do we fare up there?

Thanks in advance!

Interesting you raise this and a great idea to mark the passing of your father in the way you propose.

I have considered the Darwin game but for various reasons have not gone.

There does not seem to be any effort by the club to arrange packages ..... perhaps it is all AFL travel or whatever they outsourced it to.

Even some info about logistics of getting to the ground. seating etc would be useful.

Unfortunately the airfares to Alice Springs and Darwin are some of the most expensive routes but with some early booking it should be cheaper.

I'd email or call the experiences team at the club. They organise interstate trips, all inclusive. I called them last year as I went to the Gold Coast game up there with my boy; we'd already booked flights so they determined there wasn't much more they could do to help other than sell me tickets in the Melbourne supporters area and told me which hotel they were using so I could catch up in the bar for a beer afterwards. They told me at that point that there was about 20 going for the GCS game but only 4-5 for the Alice game (but it was still early in the season, so I'm not sure what the final numbers were).

great idea for remembering your dad. Shame it wasn't the Adelaide game, I'd happily have caught up for a beer and a yak.

The club is organising a tour group (cost $1450 single, only a handful of places left? - contact Michael Gallenti, 96022122) They'll be staying at the Chifley Alice Springs Resort if you want to go separately but catch up with like-mindeds...

Thanks for the advice everyone... it is actually cheaper and feels more flexible to book via Expedia/Last Minute etc, rather than an AFL travel package. Not staying at the Chifely @Timothy Reddan-A'Blew , but will wander up there for a yarn... so thank you for the information. I'm staying at the Ibis, which seems to be close to the ground...

We booked flight through Virgin.. I think the flight was about $500.

Hotel is Double Tree and is within walking distance to the ground.

All up around $620 return triple share for 2 nights and a win.

Great deal if you ask me.

Given that we're not playing Port anymore, which seemed to be their home ground away from home, hopefully we'll finally break the Alice Springs hoodoo.

Would strongly recommend spending a week up here and see this spectacular part of Aust.

a cheap way to get here, fly Uluru, do 3 day safari ending in Alice... (from about $400)

If you are not a Chifley, hope you are staying at Lasseters, only two decent hotels in town..

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.

The Demons were sloppy all day and could not stop the run and carry of the fast moving Hawthorn as the Hawks cruised to an easy 36 point win. Is the season over yet?
