Below are Melbourne players placed in the Top 100s in all categories of disposals etc.

They are AVERAGES per game and once players hit 5 games, they qualify.

You be the judge. IMO some are telling, the odd surprise, some are meaningless and some need to be taken in context or are distorted by the small number of games played.

To me it says, if we continue on the same trajectory, we are finals bound, particularly if we can feature less in the Clanger count.

Each stat category is followed by the players name and where they feature in the Top 100.

Enjoy

Bernie needs to get those clangers under control. Too good a player and decision maker to be listed in the top 10.

The best players in the AFL are always top 10 in clanger counts.  This stat is as meaningless as disposal efficiency.

Would have liked you to include Lewis in the numbers.

For all the criticism of TMC disposal efficiency, he ranks pretty well.

Surely that's a red flag for you and the penny drops on what a rubbish stat it is ?

I thought TMc's disposal improved quite a bit this year particularly considering the new riskier "take the game on" approach. I still think he has the ability and drive to become one of the top two or the KPD in the comp

Thanks for teeing this one up - not all of it is useful - but gives  a good sense overall

James Frawley has been top 10 in DE (players who have played most games in the season) for the past two years.

Whether you think Tom has improved this part of his game or not is irrelevant imo, because it's the most worthless stat in footy.

Do you think Toms disposal has improved?

Marginally, as you'd expect after years in an AFL system.

It's still ordinary, but ok if he plays within his limitations, which he's smart enough to do.

DE is the most useless and unrepresentative stat in footy.

ProDee I'm not quite sure what your thoughts are on DE and clangers, can you please clarify?

I reckon Tom took more risks this year and as his team mates ran to support more, and provide harder running options, a lot of his kicking paid off.

My problem with Tom is he doesn't always know when to go. ie. His game sense isn't great IMO. He'll often make a game changing error or take a risk when it's just not appropriate and the self belief will drain from our youngsters as a result.

I think in time he'll learn to actually take more risks and even if they don't pay off, our guys and Tom will keep running hard, even if a few kicks cost us a goal or two. I guess it's the same philosophy Geelong used under Thompson. Just keep attacking and attacking. Self belief will grow with that and this is where the leadership and experience of someone like Lewis will be so pivotal for our guys. Ensuring they continue to attack at all costs. Go hard or go home.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
