Nice one Bingers. Feel free to post any tips you get here no matter where you get them from. We are currently having a spell in the paddock from our weekly Best Bets. We should be back early in the Spring. But any tips are always welcome. Thanks for your contribution.

Thanks WWS. Should have posted some tips from justhorseracing.com.au for the meeting at Bendigo.

Put on 3 bets, one win (at good odds), one place and one loser. Nice overall collect on these bets.

'Enable' is running in a Group 1 in the early hours of Sunday morning (Coral-Eclipse Stakes,  Sandown UK)  Only paying $2 but should win.

One for your multi's almost as a banker if you're confident she'll win.  I might try a few from Flemington and/or Randwick with 'Enable' in a few doubles.  Just need to find a few winners in both Cities!

Go to RacingPost.com for the form.

Not much happening in Oz although I got a nice double today at Sandown (Forbid Me Not & Aristocratic Miss) Racenet.com tips this time although I've been keeping an eye on Justhorseracing.com bingers.

Some real value in their tips too.

This thread might start livening up in early to mid August so keep an eye out.

Well 'Enable' won as expected ... they run these outstanding horses quite scarcely over there so not sure when it runs again.

Almost certainly set for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (for no.3?) in early October so there is probably a race for it in between.

The replay of the Coral-Eclipse Stakes can be found on Tab.com.au or Racenet.com

Zac Purton 5 from 7 today up in HK (so far)

And he's probably not done yet with a few at value to come.  Superior horseman is understating things.

The race caller just quipped that he'd probably win on a Merry-go-round right now!

The Spring carnivals in both NSW & Victoria just got a hell of a lot bigger.

Prizemoney has been ramped up in nearly all the feature races in both States as well as Country racing & the Country Cups.

That's competition for you and I'm all for it ... much prefer to bet on the best of the best running around.  And we're almost certainly going to see more overseas representation as the money on offer now is amongst the best in the World (if not better)

I'll post up more details later with a few links but Racenet.com has all the details in their 'News' area.

Horse racing in this Country is in fantastic shape but without the fierce competition between NSW & Vic that might not be the case ... along with of course the punting dollars and the collateral provided by the horse owners.

She's a beauty, and good to see her back in such good nick. However it was sad to see the death of Sea the Class after illness; she gave Enable a big run for her money in the last Arc as a 3yo, and the rematch was going to be something to savour.

Shame about 'Sea of Class' Tim ... looked a real horse for the future.

But Enable is the new wonder mare although 'Almond Eye' has claims to that title as well.

Enable is running in a Group 1 late Saturday at Royal Ascot (King George & Queen Elizabeth Stakes) Up against Crystal Ocean & Anthony Van Dyck but she should have those 2 covered.  Defoe could get into the finish as well.

'Enable' is currently showing 4-7 so the odds are prohibitive.  The exacta might pay better or maybe the trifecta.

Go to www.racingpost.com for more details.

In other news the connections of the placegetters still haven't been paid prizemoney from the 'Andrew Ramsden Stakes' run back on the 25th May.

Steel Prince & Surprise Baby had a battle down the straight with Steel Prince winning narrowly.  The winner gets an automatic entry into the Melbourne Cup.

A terrific and thrilling finish to the race Macca. Crystal Ocean was mighty in defeat but champs almost always find a way. Enable was trapped wide early and Dettori was forced to go back with only 3 behind her. Definitely the highlight of the night after what I witnessed at Marvel.

Enable just finds a way to win ... often doesn't win by much but never-the-less,  she wins!

That will-to-win might just land her another 'Arc' too DZ.

The other talking point from our point of view are the comparisons with Winx.  But as stated previously,  I prefer to celebrate all the greats as a collective.  They're all great.

Here's the race from last night again ...

Glorious 'Goodwood' starts up on Tuesday ... a 5 day festival of racing much like the Royal Ascot Carnival.

3 big Group 1's to look out for ...

'Stradivarius' is up against Cross Counter & Dee ex Bee in the 2 mile Goodwood Cup on Tuesday

On Wednesday 'Too Darn Hot' will start close to even money favourite in the Sussex St. (Mile)

And on Thursday 'Hermosa' (9-4) will prove hard to beat in the Nassau Stakes (2000m for F & M)

Frankie Dettori will almost certainly be riding Stradivarius & Too Darn Hot whilst Ryan Moore will probably saddle up on Hermosa.

Stradivarius proved too strong at the weights in the Goodwood Cup raced overnight.  A masterful ride by Frankie Dettori all the same.  Here's the replay ...

Goodwood has been great from a punting perspective.  'Too Darn Hot' duly saluted and I had a late flutter on 'Deirdre' at terrific odds in the Mares Group 1 (Nassua Stakes) RacingPost tipped the Japanese runner and for good reason - was way overs.

I'll post up the 2 replays later on but I don't think Frankie saw 'Deirdre' coming! (took the rails run)

To view go to the results page on Tab.com

And here's the Sussex Stakes and Nassau Stakes from Goodwood (raced last Thursday & Friday)

Looking forward to Spring fellas, particularly as footy in Spring is a write off.

What day do people feel the spring kicks off (not the carnival, just the day where the spring horses start coming back)

I’m happy to kick it off as soon as everyone wants binman. I’m just about done with the winter break and keen to get back into it.  Spring horses should be returning soon.

A lot of the good horses are back next week BM but there are only 3 stakes races up for grabs this upcoming Saturday

The Winx Stakes (formerly the Warwick Stakes) is the first Group 1 for the season - 24th August.  This year's version could well see a much larger field and because the grand mare Winx is retired,  a lot more competitive too.

Same deal for the George Main Stakes,  Turnbull Stakes & the Cox Plate.  Alizee & Avilius to step in with the absence of Winx?  Hartnell the 9yo?

Yeah I'm ready to get back into the tips DZ

The off-season for me doesn't really exist as I get right into the overseas racing (Europe & Sha Tin) To good effect too especially in July and from mid to late June.

The winter racing in Melbourne & Sydney threw up the usual skewed results.  I steered clear for the most part but in hindsight should have followed Craig Williams & Damien Oliver.  They both rode plenty of winners.

Off-Season Strike Rate 5: 4-0-0

And on to the new season we go!

Best Bet (Saturday)

Flemington Race 1 No.2 Sopressa (Win) $3.00 (odds boosted)

A few feature races featuring a number of returning Spring horses highlights the meetings at Flemington & Rosehill on Saturday.  The best betting race amongst the 3 listed below being the 'Aurie's Star Hcp'

Only 5 acceptors in the Missile Stakes but it's an interesting race anyway ... picking the F4 in order in the 5 horse field might deliver an ok dividend.

Going for a bit of value first-up.

2 best bets in so far.  I've put Sopressa in a 2 leg double and included DZ's pick (Oxford Tycoon) as part of an exacta.

And for others who might want to chime in,  feel free to have a go.  We don't keep individual tallies as it's all about the team!

Our strike rate has been more than handy in the last 2 seasons (August through to the end of April) Last season 118: 46 - 15 -15

A lot of the good horses are starting to return and my rule of thumb this season might be to defer to the class factor.

Ok well i was gonna wait  a few more weeks, cause im enjoying being in the paddock....but i spotted one.

Flemington Race 8 No 3 Iconoclasm (3)  (J) Brett Prebble $8.50 Win.

A Day at the Races Best Bets:

Rosehill  Race 8 No. 8 Oxford Tycoon (W) $6.50

Flemington Race 1 No.2 Sopressa (W) $3.00

Flemington Race 8 No 3 Iconoclasm (W) $8.50

A big one to start off the Spring fellas 165/1 approx.  Good luck team!

Please note: Early kick off at Flemington 11:40am

Well that was a bit of an inauspicious start fellas!

Ah well,  there's always the sports multi's and my favourite type involves the lower league's in England (Championship,  League 1 & League 2)

Good odds too for the +2.5 match score with a nominated winner.

Anyway,  So Si Bon wins the Airie's Star Stakes ... that's what you call a turn up for the books!  Not exactly the punters favourite either so the bookies would have cleaned up.

Alizee won the Missile Stakes as expected and looks likely to have a big Spring.

4 Stakes races at Caulfield next week as we build into the new season.  The Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes over 1400m should attract a good field.

  • REPORT: Brisbane

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.

Just a game and percentage outside the Top 8, the Demons return to Melbourne to face the Sydney Swans at the MCG, with a golden opportunity to build on the momentum from toppling the reigning premiers on their own turf. Who comes in, and who makes way?
