I dont think its a good idea to have Best bets in the same race BM? Thoughts? Its not a rivalry thing as I see it. Or perhaps you didnt see other peoples bets. Good pick by the way. :)

Sorry. Didn't see yours

EL sets a new track record (57.27) at Sale. A bit short in price for my liking but pleased to see the horse get a win. It probably didn’t want another 50 metres as the second runner was closing hard. Understandable though after running a quick time.

Dan Zephyr received a mention by the trainer in the post-race interview. That was a pleasant surprise, the Zeph is still in people’s thoughts.

Looked impressive all the same DZ ... the horse is going to win more races,  that's for sure.  Depends on where they place the horse but with that 1000m speed,  the metro wins will come.

I just had a look-see today but it got around the final turn nicely and looks to have a bright future.

Agree Macca, it was a very good win. I liked the way the jockey just pushed through the field from the jump and led them up.

Interesting to see where they go from here, trainer said sometimes with four year old geldings you just have to go through the grades. Wait and see I guess although I’d love the horse to get a win for mate in town. It’s been a while for them.

Bendigo Cup tomorrow and a decent field has been assembled ... any of the top 6 can feature and there's a couple down the list that might surprise.  Outside of the favourite 'Furrion' there are good odds to be had with the next 5 in the betting.

Another fabulous line-up of races for Derby Day with each race having at least 3 or 4 standout runners that readily come to mind in.  For those who prefer the exotics,  it's a punters paradise.  I'm back to my default mode of Box5 trifectas but as always,  an element of luck is always involved.  Feeling reasonably confident,  all the same.

Finding the best bets is tricky as well ... a number of our previous picks are running around again including Sunlight,  Oohood,  Osborne Bulls,  Cliff's Edge,  Le Romain,  Don't Give a Damn (Rosehill) and a few others.

Great day coming up Macca. I read in an article the other day 5 of the 9 favourites in early betting for Derby Day are NSW raiders. DK Weir says bring it on.

The Best Bet will be a tricky proposition this week. I’m leaning towards Amphitrite again in a tough race. Dean Yendall is the light weight specialist.

Having a look through the Darby Day card. thanks Macca, so many good horses and absolutely stand out value for some top runners. Whats with Sunlight at 4.60? Broken leg?

You only have to get 2 right and youll be well in front.

Best Bet:

Flemington Race 3 No 1 Osborne Bulls $3.10

ADAR has already had 2 wins from Ozzie, lets make it 3.

I wish i could watch this day of racing. It begins at 1.45am here. Pretty hard timing which ever way i try and do it. Hope i can catch a few.

I think my strategy will involve doubles, triples and parlays. There are any number of combinations involving places and wins through the card. many good horses are paying really good place dividends. A few examples are Sixties Groove 2.80, Oohood 2.80, Le Romain 3.60....theres 28/1 right there.

I will do a few trifectas on some of the main races as well. Hartnell, Le Romain, Land of Plenty and Iconoclasm is looking at me. Not sure you leave out Cliffs Edge either....

Have a great day everyone and May the Horse be with You.

Tough day as Derby Day always is.

Best Bet:

 Flemington Race 6 Number 15

Amphitrite $4.60

G’day guys. I have a few good bets scattered across the country tomorrow but focusing on the big meeting I will settle on:

Flemington Race 6 No. 3 Shillelagh.

In the post directly above yours DZ already has a tip in race 6.

Do you have another one PD as we don't want to be betting against each other.

Oh! Sorry about that. I wasn’t aware rules applied. Just ignore mine.

There is no need to apologise PD ... we each put forward a tip and the unwritten rule is that you steer clear of a race that has been taken up already.

The tips are for the benefit of others so having 2 tips in the 1 race defeats the purpose of the concept.

What we are doing here is a departure from the usual way of receiving tips ... which can often leave the punter scratching his or her head if there are a multitude of different tips in any given race.  It is more of a team concept here where we often trust each others tips.

Just to clear things up ... we put forward our own tips but putting forward 'received' tips are always welcome.  Everyone loves the hot tip.

If there is a clash,  we can sort that out as individuals.  So the above conversation is a case of cross-wires rather than anything else.

Anyway,  anyone got a tip for the Valley tonight? ?  The fields are a bit on the thin side with a host of BM64's on show.

Nothing tonight Macca. I was told at work today to look out for Flemington Race 1 Number 4 Quackerjack tomorrow. Decent odds of around $14. Barrier could be tricky though but it’s worth a small each way bet to set up the day should it salute.

Nathan Exelby (who?) of the Courier Mail has tipped Quackerjack to win and he's the only tipster to include the horse in any way.  Which kinda makes one sit up and take notice DZ! ?

Carbine Club Stakes Tips (Herald/Sun)

Just a look at Bowmans rides. Hes got Ranier in r1 Osborne Bulls in r3 and Hartnell r7. These are his best 3 i think. In the last he has one called From Within which has had 4 wins and is a smart type according to Hugh. Could be a good one for the Get Out Stakes.

Great to watch that again. What was the wash up with Kings Will Dream?

My best is Osborne bulls. Race 3 no 1.

Its run on rubbish ground in the Everest was huge (cost me the trif - which I thought I had from the vision). Redzel form is primo and ob is a winner. Also suspect track will suit run on horses. Which I hope is right as I have made my selections based on that.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
