A Day at the Races

Keep selecting those leaders at Caulfield binman

The winner of the first led and should have been run down but kept them all at bay down the straight.

brilliant run by the riderless horse in the  second at Caulfield

Couldn't help but be impressed by the way he kicked back in the straight to come again on the line

Homesman is the one for me.  Should jump to the front on a leaders track and a big weight drop makes it a very good chance.

Too late. I put all my bets on before the first so locked in. The second was not so leader dominated, but still i think horses will need to be in the first 4 or 5 (which is what i planned for), at least until late in the day.

What’s going on here? I’ve missed the first 3 races, where’s Francesca Cumani?

Cost me there. Changed from From Within

Good start from the team thanks to @Wadda We Sing

Thinkin' Big very impressive.  Never in doubt and the horse looks a decent prospect.

DEAD HEAT!!!!

Mask Of Time refused to lose, great finish to that one.

Edit: The aerial view showed some contact close to the post, will we hear more?

Looks very similar to the Avilius finish from 2 weeks ago.  They dismissed that protest and they should allow for a bit of buffeting over a 2000m race.

But who knows DZ?

A 1st vs 1st protest, I’m sure it’s happened before but I can’t remember the last time.

Gytrash left its run too late imo by the way Macca.

Yeah that straight at Morphettville can be both short & long on occasions!  Gytrash just didn't quicken when it should have.

Anyway the team has gone 1.5 from 4 today or should we level things off at 2 from 4?  ha ha

Best Solution too good ... Homesman was game but there's often a fine line between winning and being an also-ran.

Full credit to the winner though as it had to carry top weight,  had the wide barrier and it had the Group 1 winning form.  Started 4th favourite so it was well supported.

Well done to the towels.

Lock up your camels tonight.

Over to Adelaide for the last 2 ... I'm going with JJ's tips as my picks have been all-at-sea today ?

Thanks Macca-is "all at sea " a euphemism for "completely retarded"?

Finally a winner with Mahalangur ... would have much preferred the trifecta in the same race though.

Had the placegetters marked but you can't include them all.  Paid 6k plus with one of the favoured runners winning

Ouch. Paid the price today for doputting bets on early. Despite the soft track has favoured leaders all day. Infuriating. Was evident early but too late to change.

Punters lament: changed my selections to trailing horses from Shamook, From Within, Best of Days and Thinking Big. Double ouch

JJ tips are handy for the exotics ... got 2 decent exacta's from his tips today including 1 in the lucky last.  All that effort to barely break even.  haha

There again,  breaking even is like winning in the final analysis.  Lesson learnt again ... don't invest too much into the big feature races.

The British Champion's Series of races from Royal Ascot are on later tonight and the good news is that the event is being shown on the free-to-air channel.  4 Group 1 races over the classic distances and a 2 mile Group 2 race as well are on the card.

Stradivarius,  Roaring Lion & Cracksman should dominate 3 of the races and all 3 will start very short.  Lah Ti Dah & The Tin Man are also worth looking at in the other 2 Group 1's.

Mine were too. Did you have any selections on the day Biff?

Thanks Macca

I was having my worst day for quite some time but got a couple of late collects to save face.  I've had a decent month though so can't complain.

Might have helped if you'd put forward your Sydney Quaddie Biff - what happened there? ... last week I used a couple of your race selections to get a few collects in the exotics

I’m shocked Biff, seriously....how did you know I had a pet camel?

And Royal Ascot pays off late ... Stradivarius,  Roaring Lion,  Cracksman.  You've gotta love a treble.  Ripper!

Couple of feature races at Sha Tin later today that might be worth a look.  Some familiar names involved with both races.

The winner of the Sprint should come from the 3 favoured runners whilst either 'Beauty Generation' or 'Pakistan Star' should win the Mile classic although 'Rise High' may feature with the low weight.

Race 7  The Premier Bowl 1200m Group 2

Race 8  Sha Tin Trophy 1600m Group 2

Looks like today’s Cranbourne meeting has been postponed. Just tuned in to hear there was some kind of fall in the 4th. Higgins and  Brad Rawiller the jockeys involved. Not sure the extent, but ambulances have been on the track for a while now.

El Magnificence will have to wait for another day.

Jockeys seem to be ok according to one of the stewards just now. Good to hear.

Australian Group & Listed Races

Best Bet Strike Rate

44: 15 - 5 - 8

And here's a few replays from yesterday ...

Geelong Cup on Wednesday and it looks a good betting race too ... the locals (or newly acquired locals ?) have real claims as do the overseas contingent.

If chancing your arm on the exotics a mix of locals & newly arrived horses is probably the go.  The 1, 3 & 6 are all having their first start in the country and all 3 have decent overseas form for this sort of race.

Geelong Cup 2400m $350k Group 3

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
