Dr Turf mentioned ‘Utzon’ as an omen bet for the 1st at Caulfield today. If you like an omen bet or a bit of history, Utzon is out of a dam called ‘ The Opera House’. It’s probably a case of a well picked out name rather than an omen.

One of my favourite names for a galloper was ‘Most Husbands’, the dam was of course called ‘No Say’.

So the Best Bets for this week, with Binman to come, are:

Caulfield Race 3 No 1 Sunlight $3.10

Caulfield Race 4 No 14 Leather n Lace  $5.50

Caulfield Race 5 No 2 Voodoo Lad $3.60

Those 3 will get you around 60/1 depending on which betting agency you choose to go with...

Good luck punters..

Seeing we're on a new page here are our best bets again collated by Wadda (above)

The Randwick track is rated as a Heavy9 and showers are predicted for the late morning and the late afternoon.  There's been a lot of scratchings up North and the heavy track form will come to the fore especially in the 'Everest'.

Biffens Sydney Quaddie.

Race 7 : 1,2,3,4,8,10

Race 8 : 2,3,4,12

Race 9 : 3,5,8,10

Race 10 : 1,2,6,7

* Sikandrabad- Will win a Group 1 this year.

My best is smart melody. Will find the lead, stack them up and kick away. This her gf and she is the best filly in the country.

Well they ran 59.70 for the 1000m in the first at Randwick which isn't that slow ... they didn't seem to cut the track up too much either.  We'll know more after a couple more races.

'Champagne Boom' looked very impressive winning the first at Caulfield ... cruised to the line and the Hayes group looked to have unearthed another classy type.

Sunlight - all class!

The day starts well again.

I have boxed your choices in race 9 in a trifecta ... the track up there isn't playing too badly at all.  They are a couple of seconds off the better times but the gap isn't that much at all,  all things considered.

Can someone throw some suggestions for the Top 10 in order in The Everest? Only $10mil up for grabs through TAB. I’m picking Vidora for first. Help with 2-10, please?

Fascinating concept the Everest.

I assume someone owns the rights to the concept because why would you not see it extended to other races and also other animal races such as greyhounds and trotters.

Can the slot owners syndicate their slots by the way. Would be a nice earner if you bought one for $600k and then on sold to 20 people at $30k while retaining 20% ownership for yourself.

Wow, Amphitrite!

Yep ... and after winning the Edward Manifold just 1 week ago - flew home!  Our pick Smart Melody looked like it found the distance a bit too long.

Anyway,  DK Weir does it again along with Craig Williams.

The Wakeful and/or the Oaks now.  Although as Darren Weir said,  the horse has done enough already after winning this Group 1 race.

But if you can snag the tri or F4 at least you know it will be a healthy dividend DJ.  With the heavy track a few can be kinda ruled out but who knows?

Le Romain's heavy track form is excellent and I'm having a go at the boosted odds of 15-1.  It's best form is very good anyway.

Tough one this one. I’ve had a go at the correct finishing order for the top 10. Free to enter and a chance to share in 10 million. If the numbers align I’ll be having a slot in next year’s race or maybe just throw a massive Demonland party.

at 10-1 the odds of picking all 10 in correct order is around 1 billion to one... good luck !!!

No party unfortunately. The wife was just telling me the same thing, she even threw in that I can’t pick the first one past post in most cases.

Redzel just way too good (again) in the Everest.  Trapeze Artist & Le Romain boxed on well but the 3rd placegetter Osborne Bulls ran a terrific race racing down the Grandstand side.  Really smart ride and picks up $1.2Million for the connections and in turn boosts up the exotic dividends.

Ist & 2nd were no-brainers in hindsight but I wouldn't have had Osborne Bulls anyway.  Over 10k for the First4.  That's decent.

Interesting that the equivalent race in the US is the Pegaus worth A$15M at A$1.25M a slot.

In 2018 there were 4 unsold slots.

We definitely are  a nation of gamblers ?

The Pegasus has been de-valued down to around about the $8Million mark DJ ... stand corrected on that one but I'll find out for sure later.

The overseas form for the staying races just can't be ignored but I'm taking full notice - snagged a reasonable percentage of the trifecta in the Caulfield Stakes and that dividend was way overs if the true form was taken into account.

Winx might not have it all her own way in Cox Plate - Benbatl is a serious racehorse.

Hey Macca, do you think Winx will be retired after this years Cox Plate?

I don't think so ... the connections have starting taking a more open-minded stance and I read that as they will go on with the horse.  The Queen Elizabeth Stakes is worth $4Million next Autumn and Winx will still only be a 7yo then.   I wouldn't even rule out another Spring campaign.

The money is way too good to retire a horse too early ... Rupert Legh is now talking about taking an 8yo Chautauqua to the USA.  And why not?

The Autumn Sun - Awesome!

Cox Plate next?  Carrying 49kgs you'd reckon it's a no-brainer.  It's only an extra 400m and the horse looks like it can cover extra ground quite easily.  And Winx needs some competition!

That would have to be the performance of the Spring so far or close to it, we may not even see a better one Macca.

@Diamond_Jim  ... here's a link (below) to the Pegasus race meeting.  There has been some talk that the Everest could have the same sort of issues especially if the slot-holders keep making losses without a line-up of ready-made replacements.

It should be noted that a $7Million turf race has been added to the Pegasus card and that the organisers of the event were pursuing Winx to run in the new race.  Meanwhile,  the Everest is set to have prize money of $15Million next year.  Should they just give the race to Redzel now? ha ha

Anyway,  here's the link ... Pegasus World Cup

Quote

The purse of the 2019 Pegasus World Cup will see a reduction. The $9 million purse planned for next year is down from $16 million last year and $12 million in 2017. The $500,000 entry fee for the dirt race is half the price of the first two editions, as each required a $1 million entry fee.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
