Blinkers on for the first time ever and the Zephyr just sped away from them like a horse possessed.  I wonder if the connections might be tempted to give the Dan a couple more runs with the blinkers on?

Anyway,  it's trifecta time again ... the Kingsford-Smith Cup & the Queensland Oaks are the 2 standout choices and I'll throw in a 3rd choice from Randwick.

If you've got a preference just post up your choice at your convenience @Dee Zephyr @Wadda We Sing  @binman

3 very good races there Macca. Hard to split them really , with some standout horses in each race.

I mean the distance is against Savacool, but at $8.50? worth a shot...

Equador would be my pick of the lot.

Im happy with any of those, but Equador at home is a good thing.

Hold your horses!! You’re wondering on the right track Macca. Spoke to mate today and they are considering giving the Zephyr one more run with the blinkers on. Admittedly the win was in a weak field of 4 and had the horse lost it would have been in the paddock definitely. Will provide further updates soon.

Will check out the trifecta options when I get home a little later.

And continuing my theme of highlighting the overseas Group 1's whilst our racing gets scaled back for the winter, here are the 3 Group 1's scheduled for this weekend (The Curragh - Ireland)

Sky Racing1 & 2 are covering the events for those who have cable but I believe the FTA racing station does cover these big events from time to time.  Especially at the Royal Ascot week long carnival in June where we'll see some Aussie representation.

To be honest i dont understand blinkers........the horse Zephyr led all the way from the barriers right?....he couldnt have seen very much of the other horses could he?? Why would the blinkers make any difference? Maybe he just likes having stuff on his head?? What about trying a bandana and sunglasses~ ?  Maybe a latte after the run.....

Blinkers are an Australian invention you know.

Go Zeph.

I’m happy with any of the 3 Macca, here’s my order of preference in case a “tiebreaker” is required.

1. McKell Cup - Randwick

2. Kingsford-Smith Cup - Doomben

3. Queensland Oaks - Doomben

I also lean toward the top 2.  ....then again we could do all 3~! :)

My preference would be the Kingsford-Smith Cup so Wadda,  you can decide out of the top 2 preferences if you like.

Ha ha!  I reckon we'll get this one Wadda but not sure about the dividend for the trifecta.  However,  I play around with our picks and incorporate a first4 in there as well.

I really like Le Romain as well but I'm third up this time around so it's over to @Dee Zephyr

We could always have a go at the McKell Cup as well - punters lament and all that!

Same format and we can play around with the picks as we see fit ... as previously stated,  with the small fields it's not a bad idea to eliminate 3 or 4 horses and then shoot for the first4.

Just a thought.

ps ... the Oaks race is very tricky with a lot of the horses that may be at the end of their respective campaigns (already)

Impending for the trifecta fellas. I don’t mind throwing in a pick for the McKell as well Macca.

Yep ... we'll get this one out of the way first DZ and then we can throw things open for the McKell Cup.

I'll take 'English'  as the 3rd pick to win ... although,  I reckon it's a race in 2 between Impending & Le Romain.  There's a couple of others that have run some very slick times of late but not at WFA level or against this sort of class field.

So it's over to @binman  to finish things off in the Kingsford-Smith Cup - we'll need 2 placegetters BM.

  • W/2/3  Le Romain
  • W/2/3  Impending
  • W/2/3  English
  • 2/3       ????????
  • 2/3       ????????

Well now youve mentioned it we better go that one too.........i already know what my pick is, but we will finish this one off first i guess.

Well whilst BM is picking out his certainties we can go ahead and kick things off with the McKell Cup ... you liked Ecuador yeah?

There are some other good fields up in Doomben apart from the 2 feature races ...  specifically races 3,  4,  6 & 9.  'It's Somewhat' looks a standout in The Lord Mayors Cup (race 4)

You’re spot on Macca, Doomben is shaping up as a really good day for racing. I had a look at the whole card a short time ago and there are some terrific races.

I have a selection for the McKell Cup. I’m going for a value runner in No.5 Lovani.

Edit: Did I go too early? Wadda hasn’t declared his pick yet I see.

Not sure it matters a great deal DZ ... the 3rd pick is the tricky one as we're looking for a bit of value.  But your pick 'Lovani' offers that value already so I may play it safe.

Yep its Equador from me Macca. Gai at home in a big race everytime and ive been following it so not getting off now....

And I'll take 'Our Century' ... in form,  lightly raced and has won or placed 3 times from 3 runs at the distance.  Avdulla on board is a plus too.

So here's how our 2nd trifecta race is looking ...

McKell Cup - Randwick Race 7

  • W/2/3  Ecuador
  • W/2/3  Lovani
  • W/2/3  Our Century
  • 2/3       ????????
  • 2/3       ????????

So if you've got the inclination to part with your wisdom on this race @binman , just post up a couple of likely placegetters at your leisure.

Best Bet: Doomben Race 5 No.3 Zousain

TAB Odds: $3.10

Drawn nicely and McEvoy booked to take the ride again. He’s ridden the horse to both career wins to date and his last victory looked soft in the end. Settled back and showed a devastating turn of foot upon straightening to reel in the leaders quickly and finished off with the old “hands and heels” method.

I believe this horse has plenty more to offer, certainly looks a star of the future.

I’m not huge on the punt but do get the odd bit of mail which is occasionally profitable. Tomorrow I have these:

Doomben R2 - 11 Heavenly Thought

Doomben R6 - 12 Schism

Doomben R9 - 11 The Bostonian

Sandown R2 - 13 Dane Thunder

They are all worth a few $ each way and throwing in any multiples.

Nice one PD. Drop in anytime~! We look at all tips. :)

A late one...Gold Coast R2 - 4 Dafeenah.

The last 2 have been scratched PD but the first 2 picks offer very good value - especially the Darren Weir trained 'Heavenly Thought' ... and 'Schism' is overdue to salute but again,  it is very good each-way odds.

An interesting one is 'Dafeenah' ... the bookies have kept it safe.  Opened at about 5-2 and has stayed at those odds.

It's only run is where it finished 12th of 12 where the horse looked like it over-raced.  Won both it's trials though.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
