best of the rest grand final

Featured Replies

I have a great idea for the bye weekend, how about the teams that finished 9th and 10th play in the best of the rest Grand Final, they could play it in the bye weekend, this would add extra interest in round 23, would teams be interested in winning an extra piece of silverware, also maybe the 17th and 18th teams, playoff in a game for the rights of the first pick in the draft, and the loser declared the wooden spoon winners. Just my thoughts, what does everyone think about that?

I think it's a great idea, although i'm not sure if the bottom two teams would bring a massive crowd with them

Teams won't commit players to a essentially meaningless game.

Imagine if we finished 9th and played that game and Jones did his knee in it.

I understand the idea, but too risky for no reward.

David King said the EJ Whitten legends game should be that weekend. I tend to agree.

they could use that week for things like EJ whitten game, Brownlow, All Australian team, Rising star, get all the awards done

a game to celebrate narrowly missing the finals? would mean nothing to me and I would guess the players

Players doing knee injuries in a bye weekend

Not a good idea

For 10 sides the season is over....

maybe they could play the VFL GF at the G that week?

or as the womens league grows they could play a game to get exposure?

huh?

that would shorten the vfl season by 3 weeks (or is it 2?)

the bye is the week after the last home and away

Maybe some sort of round, with incentives eg 9v10, 11v12 etc with the winners of those games to gain the better dfaft pick . So in the 17 v 18, the winner would go pick 1, the loser pick 2 etc. sort of reverse tanking, albeit at a fine tuning level.

Could have State of Origin from the remaining 10 teams - could still be some decent line-ups.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
