I just like how he backed the players in this week. Yes I was shocked when he made no change but it shows he believe in his team and backs them. Must give the players confidence. Also what a great move to put Jetta on Betts because I wouldn't thought of that matchup.

Most of the guys coming in from casey have added to the team in positive way . Evans was ok for a couple then went back again and maybe Byrnes will go back again- again but jKH Jamar Salem Jetta have form . We havnt seeen impact from guys promoted for years. How good was Salems Cameo against the crows , that goal . Early call but he reminds me of one Adam Yze in his kicking ability .

One of the glaring differences between Neeld and Roos seems to be the decisions made at the selection table. Under Neeld, the starting 22 seemed at times seemed like a revolving door and for the most part, he was making the decisions that most of us would have agreed with.

By my count, we've got 16 players who have played every game to date. Obviously that number will diminish as players get injured through the year and so forth, but that's an extremely solid side.

To contrast: up to and including round 6, Hawthorn had 15 such players, Geelong had 14, Brisbane had 11, and Carlton only had 9.

Adem Yze won a Queens Birthday clash off his own boot in 04 or 05. That game probably got me into watching footy seriously at a time when I didn't have much interest in it.

While were praising Roosy, I spoke to the Toump who I know through a friend and he was glowing in his praise for him. Said he's a really nice bloke, great teacher, honest and just wants everyone to stick to the structures and play their roles. Also said everyone has bought into his gameplan and the way he wants everyone to go about it. At Sydney when they won their flag in 2005, blokes like Nic Fosdike, LRT, Buchanan, Luke Ablett, Craig Bolton, Jarred Crouch. All of those players weren't superstars but played their roles and got the best out of themselves. He will do exactly the same with players like Pederson, Terlich etc.

Stability is what we lacked under Neeld. If the couch doesn't have confidence in the playing group then why would they have confidence in the coach and buy into the game plan.

I think it has been pretty much been confirmed Neeld was a Collingwood/Eddie setup for the Dees-

Don't underestimate the affect PJ has had on this club and the players. It's amazing what a little trust and belief can do to a workforce

Interesting way to look at it. I would say as well said dysfunctional board and admin were the one's responsible getting him to the club. They didn't help him but it wasn't like Neeld inherited them and to a large extent, he followed their orders.

However, your overall point stands. The onfield component has no where to hide if the off field generals have their house in order. Any organization takes it's cues from the top.

neeld tried to use the magoos for making players earn their spot and regain form when needed.

he also instigated the building up of younger players and not exposing them to early.

but bad luck and probably a dysfunctional footy department didnt help him.

he did make sure younger players got their bodies looked after and programmed to a full year of senior footy.

PR,is and rightly so getting the pats on the back from fans,for the effort so far this year.

his reputation and the past form of our club ensures a trust has begun.

that and the extra mids has pushed recently tried mids further out and allowed pedder,byrnes and others to play a role.

jamar back,terlich less turnovers,dunny holds down tuff spot,garland and others can be stremed back at the right time.

regular selections and gameplan meetings also add to the stabilisation.

yesterday discussing GCS,it was noted that their team is now ready for footy as they have been together 3 years and have a KNOWN team structure to overcome challenges.

our team structure is currently being built and dropping players wont help those structures put in place.

yes,bynes,terlich,jamar,pedders and others are important to the structure and thats why trust is building.

I think Neeldy's problem with his perceived demotion of players were that they were seen too often as 'punishments' and too often they were Clayton's omissions in that blokes like Beamer, Col, Flash and Watts would go to Casey and then be back in a week anyway.

If most of us had our way, then Watts would have been dropped last week. At various points, we probably would have cut Grimes, Pederson, Byrnes, Terlich, Bail, Howe, JKH as well. Jack copped it from all sections of the media, but Roos refused to single out and humiliate a player who's been maligned for his entire career.

Of course, players should earn their place, but I wonder if we're witnessing some of the benefits of playing a more settled line-up - in the cohesion and camaraderie of the playing group and the confidence of these players individually?

Another difference was Neeld did not have the general confidence from the playing group. He treated the players as school kids and endeavoured to mimic the game style of Collingwood with a hit the boundary line at all costs policy. There was very little "play on" or drawing the opposition and hand balling over the top to loose man. Neeld was a shocker as Coach.

Wisedog: Listen to what Roos says in regard to Watts. We all make way to bigger a deal about him. He fits in the middle somewhere in Melbourne's list. We need him. There were many players on that list that could of been dropped before Watts (game v Swans).
