This draft doesn't appear to have the same hype as other drafts, so i figure it is not a strong draft. Might be hard to get a gem from the draft and even harder to trade picks.

SPC..it mightnt be too hard trading picks....if you hold 2 and 3

Pick 4 to the suns for 11&15

Pick 3 & 11 for shiel and orourke

Pick 15 for Tom Mitchell

Pick 22 for tommlinson

New midfield and versatile hardworking tall

this is what I'm trying to workout, we need to add something to P-4, to get P-9 & P-14/15 ?

But if Dangerfield becomes an option, P-4 may be spoken 4... a le` Toump.

I think that is because its so strong & even. at least thru the top rounds. so this would make P-11 & P-15 stronger than other years, compared to P-4.

also the focus has shifted away from the heavy bias to 18Yr olds, of past years.

Yeah i agree we will be at the pointy end of the draft and will certainly have good picks. But i just feel that 'trading for stars' with pick 2 & 3 this year may not have the same weight at previous years.. I would love pick 2 & 3 in last years draft.

Dee luded we need to offer Dangerfield massive dollars to get his attention, and they'd want pick 2 and a player imo

Would we give up pick2 and watts or Howe for danger?

Would not take me too long to make the decision!

I'm about the same od if it means getting danger to the club, obviously Adelaide would have to be certain he was going to walk for nothing next year to even consider it

If I had P-2 or 3, followed by chippa compo, I would trade the first pick plus a player to get the deal over the line.

Offering Danger dollars, goes without saying... $m5.2 over 4 Yrs front biased. the Crows will want a tall imo.

Our 1st pick + a package from {Gawn, Watts, MJones, McKenzie, Toump, Evans, Blease, Jamar, Tapscott, Georgiou...), for Danger.

... if Frawls signed on, maybe they would entertain a trade of Chippa + Toumpas or Gawn, for Danger - plus their 3rd Rnd pick?

If Adam Tomlinson was in the draft I'd have a fairly large bet that St Kilda would take him with pick 1.

I don't get why people are talking about Treloar? Great player, but looks settled to me this year, where Shiel looks to be cruising in 3rd gear, looks to want out to me.

Lets go after the ones we can get first. Shiel will be every bit as good or better once he's settled... then package in Jaksch; & also a deal for Tomlinson, not necessarily in this order.

we need so many players to get to the top.

Because Treloar is a much better player in my opinion

Also this...

Treloar of GWS is said to be unhappy over in the west sydney badlands and will be on his bike home at end of year.

IMO, he's better value than Scully and definitely worth looking at.

Just did, for the record, brayshaws disposal is rated A+ on both sides, which is his biggest weapon, hence the Sam Mitchell comparison from end

Posted

Yep. And I don't agree with that rating from the games I've seen him play.

There's also a lot more to Mitchell than just being virtually ambidextrous.

agree on Mitchell, I find the boyd comparison interesting, I consider him to be ultra consistant but not someone who is going to be damaging, just an honest ball winner, I see Brayshaw as a little bit better than that, I think his kicking can be damaging, I found his national champs extremely disappointing compared to his lead up to them, perhaps he didn't handle the step up in quality very well, which could be a concern

it's a pick I have no issue with trading, i'd rate Dylan Shiel a long way above Brayshaw to be totally honest, Petracca is the mid from the draft that really interests me, I reckon you have it bang on with Dustin Martin there, I reckon he will have bursts of brilliance but I don't rate his tank, I think he could fade in and out of games a little unless he can improve that.

As you've touched on, I'm wary of overrating them.

I know Fyfe and Mitchell were meant to give an idea of their style, but those 2 are in a league of their own.

I'm concerned about the level of quality in this year's draft crop.

The kids touted as the real elite picks just don't seem to have enough for mine.

I find it interesting to think of where Salem would have been picked if he was in this year's draft crop.

Anyone think that we might add both Brett Kirk and Cameron Ling as assistant coaches at seasons end?

Yes Ling assistant to George Stone and Kirk under Paul Roos would be great

Even Wright and mccartin haven't been convincing in my opinion,

They will probably be decent players but compared to the last couple of years it seems a pretty weak draft, maybe the real gems are down abit lower, Corey Ellis, De goey, ahern, Weller they all look solid prospects, perhaps the Dom Tyson type deal could prove a huge winner this year

Well if true, that Treloar is unhappy & wants out, by all means, but I think Shiel will be more damaging player than Treloar, from the little I've seen of them anyway.

I rate Treloar higher than Shiel personally, if it came to a choice, i'd happily take both

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
