R.I.P. Demonology

Featured Replies

a dull boring site where the only discussion is oneupmanship between posters who can only be described as sad nerds. who cares , back to the footy

Satyriconhome has been less prominent here of late.

Yes i have noticed that too Akum.

I still have $$$ on them being the same.

well they have got their grubby hands on a site that has more functions not working than working and a pile of handwritten obsolete code that only tim knows how to maintain

in essence they have really only got the domain name

I just checked it out, it's certainly clear it was a takeover of some description.

I posted a question asking how this occurred considering Tim's previous reluctance to let anyone touch the site outside of Nasher and possibly George, a general question with no real assertions, it was immediately deleted and I gather my Administration rights will be revoked, not that it matters, I don't post or read Demonology anymore.

I do however feel for Tim, he's poured a lot of Tim and effort into Demonology over the years.

They've managed to revoke access to people, so I gather they've got some form of idea on how it works.

How much?

I have been involved in the volunteer program at the club and have met both.

Saty is as passionate demon as they come, who selflessly gives his time to the club, who goes and supports the boys at training regularly. I know he rubs many the wrong way on this site, but a lot of that is him having fun. He's a nice bloke with whom I've had quite a few enjoyable football conversations with.

Dr Who, is a dishonest as they come. If Tim knew the guy, he would have ran a million miles from him. Smithy's post tells so much.

Sad really.

In amongst the rubbish was some worthwhile discussion and opinion.

Whoey is a blight on this club's supporter groups and drives people away from wherever he plonks himself.

I ignore satywhoey on this site and will ignore 'ology from now on.

He responded, claims Tim went to them for help!

well i'm still logged on, but i suspect if i logoff i won't be able to logon again

and the performance has gone right off despite little posting activity

Can't log in over there now. Looks like you might need Who's sonic screwdriver to enter the site.

I just logged in no problems (and quickly logged out again).

Site seems to be running slowly though!!!

you may be right RG,but the writing styles are remarkably similiar over a long period of time.

I have never questioned Satyr's loyalty to the club. He is too loyal in my opinion.

He would still be blindly supporting Schwab and the previous board if the hadn't been removed.

Dr Who is just a social nightmare..he was here last summer.

I'm hesitant to post there now.

Some real nasty stuff going on.

I enjoy both sites and what they have to offer. Its just a shame that one of them is dying the way it is.

A little while ago I was approached by a poster who wanted to be put into contact with Demonology's owner about the prospect of revitalising the site. I would be mortified if that person is now the owner and has put irresponsible people in charge of its administration and moderation. Looking at the site however, I've not seen evidence of this taking place although I do see that quite a few posters who have been banned on here find themselves new homes over there.I hope the change of ownership proves not to be true. I like some of the robust discussion that goes on there from time to time.

It's bad enough having little diversity in the Australian meda. The MFC is even worse with its social media. Change and a different point of view can be a good thing. At this stage I'm only being philosophical about this, but for too long Land has had too much say in O'logy. It may be nice being Murdoch, but it doesn't always work for the ant colonies.

Quite a few are no longer posting mate - sad.

I've been on Ology since 2002 - 11 years of my life. Lots of infighting but also friends made from there in real life & lots of commiserating and celebrating over the Dees. I live in a tiny town in outback WA, so Ology has been a lifeline to fellow Dees for me. I'm really sad. Demonland is great and will be my new home, but can we lose the sniping for a little while to let us mourn.

I just hope my mate faultydet now post in here more often.

Top Bloke we crossed paths in the Philippines last year and drank a quantity of beer following a loss on here!!

Great day was had...

Quite a few are no longer posting mate - sad.

I should say, 'hesitant' to post there now for fear of post/s will get deleted if it doesn't adhere to the policies of the new regime.

Don't despair: there's always "Bigfooty" !

I get the feeling that Saty finally realized that a lot of what he was getting fed was BS. I say that sincerely and as RGRS knows him personally, perhaps he can probably confirm or deny this. I think the last of his last 'provocative' posts came just before Neeld got the sack. That presser might have opened his eyes a bit, especially the bit when PJ called us a 'drag on the competition'. There was no point going on with the 'everything is awesome' schtick anymore as even he would have realized he would have just looked like a dill.

Yes, it's sad.

I salute all the work that Tim did over the years.

It was only a few years ago that about half of our forum footy team was made up of players and helpers introduced to demonland by first finding demonology.

Many of us posted on or read both sites.

I won't embarass posters by naming them, but it was only a few years ago that a group of us offered Tim our help to fix the site, but he resolutely refused.

I am so sorry it has ended this way.

But life, and demonland, go on.

Regards to all,

Rollo

what i don't understand is why tim handed over the crown jewels for nothingto someone he knew little of, yet refused to do the same to many people he did know and trusted, who had offered to help on many occasions.

just doesn't add up.........but its done now

I hope that Tim Stanes is ok & that this result is truly his wish.

I may be naive in these matters (not to mention matters Daniel Rich), but I have two questions:

(1) What does anybody stand to gain by taking over a site like 'Ology just to sabotage it? Especially when it's obvious to all what's going on?

(2) Is there a risk of a hostile takeover happening here???

Send me a PM and I may be able to provide some insight.

  • PREVIEW: Brisbane

And just like that, we’re Narrm again. Even though the annual AFL Sir Doug Nicholls Round which commemorates the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture to our game has been a welcome addition to our calendar for ten years, more lately it has been a portent of tough times ahead for we beleaguered Narrm supporters. Ever since the club broke through for its historic 2021 premiership, this has become a troubling time of the year for the club. For example, it all began when Melbourne rebranded itself as Narrm across the two rounds of the Sir Doug Nicholls Round to become the first club to adopt an Indigenous club name especially for the occasion. It won its first outing under the brand against lowly North Melbourne to go to 10 wins and no losses but not without a struggle or a major injury to  star winger Ed Langdon who broke his ribs and missed several weeks. In the following week, still as Narrm, the team’s 17 game winning streak came to an end at the hands of the Dockers. That came along with more injuries, a plague that remained with them for the remainder of the season until, beset by injuries, the Dees were eliminated from the finals in straight sets. It was even worse last year, when Narrm inexplicably lowered its colours in Perth to the Waalit Marawar Eagles. Oh, the shame of it all! At least this year, if there is a corner to turn around, it has to be in the direction of something better. To that end, I produced a special pre-game chant in the local Narrm language - “nam mi:wi winnamun katjil prolin ambi ngamar thamelin amb” which roughly translated is “every heart beats true for the red and the blue.” >y belief is that if all of the Narrm faithful recite it long enough, then it might prove to be the only way to beat the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Sunday. The Lions are coming off a disappointing draw at Marvel Stadium against a North Melbourne team that lacks the ability and know how to win games (except when playing Melbourne). Brisbane are, however, a different kettle of fish at home and have very few positional weaknesses. They are a midfield powerhouse, strong in defence and have plenty of forward options, particularly their small and medium sized players, to kick a winning score this week after the sting of last week’s below par performance.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

  • PREGAME: Brisbane

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
