There have been some movement in the camp this week, I decided to post my thoughts on the fringe players regardless prior to these announcements. Added some updates. I posted the A-Ds and now the E - Ms.

Michael Evans:

Age 20 Ht 180 75 Kgs

Debuted 2011: Contracted end of 2015

Career = 13 Games 6 Gls 4 Bhs

2013 = 9 Games 6 Gls 4 Bhs

Best season 2013 :

Pros: Evans could develop into a more than handy Midfielder. Brave, fearless. Had a good turn of speed and can get his own ball. Willng to run and carry and will kick a goal. Has good balance and gives as good as he gets.Has the goods and young enough

Cons: Injuries are his worst enemy. If he fails to make his mark, injuries will have played a big part.

Outlook:

'Pickles' I admire. He has fought he way through back injuires and setbacks. When some may have said enough is enough I'm going back home. To his credit he remained and is committed. He is aggressive at the ball, and can run and spread. there is a lot to like about the boy from W.A. To be able to fulfill the promise in his ablility he needs to stay on the park. Could be a damaging mid. In his own way I can see another Junior Mac on our hands.Anyone so determined and brave gets my vote every time. He still needs to work hard and keep improving, or he'll join a long list of almost but didnt get there in the end. 2014 he must deliver.

Jack Fitzpatrick:

Age 22 Ht 200 95 Kgs

Debuted 2011: Contracted end of 2015 *

Career = 14 Games 18 Gls 11 Bhs

2013 = 11 Games 15 Gls 9 Bhs

Best season 2013 :

Pros: Agile and quick for someone of his size and can ruck or play forward.

Cons: May be fragile in mind. Confidence in himself might make or break him.

Outlook:

Had the critics calling for his head after his first game,and rightly so. Seemed to be punching above his weight and looked lost.Add in some health issues that could have curtailed his career with the Dees, he fought through it and started to create huge problems at VFL level. Whether it was rucking or playing in the forward line, Suddenly Fitzy was making people stand up and take notice he got his reward and earned a recall to the seniors. Luck played a part, no Clark or Dawes. To his credit, with his confidence growing he put his knockers on the back foot. He still needs to work hard on his skills but has time on his side. Finding a place up forward with Clark Hogan Dawes and perhaps Howe, he has his work cut out. If he keeps improving he will make it hard to keep out. An outside chance of being traded for a quality mid.

* Update- Just signed a 2yr extension on his contract. He has played some good games over the last month, but he will still need to keep improving, or will remain a fringe player.

Tom Gillies;

Age 23 Ht 192 87 Kgs

Debuted 2009 (Geelong): Contracted end of 2013?

Career = 15 Games 1 Gls 0 Bhs

2013 = 2 Games 0 Gls 0 Bhs

Best season 2012 : 73 Disposals 1 Gls 0 Bhs

Pros: Has a good build and time to improve at his 2nd club.

Cons: Could face a problem getting himself a position in the backline. Hasnt shown enough to date.

Outlook:

Traded from Geelong and I havent seen enough of him to form an honest opinion. With enough players ahead of him in the pecking order he may find himself on the outer. Like any player on the list I wish him well. In a push for mids, he probably wont be around in 2014.

Neville Jetta

Age 22 180 Ht 81 Kgs

Debuted 2009 Contracted end of 2013

Career = 40 Games 19 Gls 13 Bhs

2013 = 4 Games 0 Gls 1 Bhs

Best Season 2009 : 179 disposals 7 Gls 8 bhds

Pros: Speedy and hard at the ball and opponent. Doesnt mind it tough, could be the small we need.

Cons: Been on the list for 5 years and has failed to cement a spot.

Outlook:

Jetta has been floating on the list for long enough to have shown he has whats it takes. Through injury and suspensions at various times has everyone wondering where he is at. In a team screaming for a small speedy defender or foward, so far has let himself down. Shows he has what it takes but more often than not, fails to deliver when required. Most likely will be cast aside to make way for a mid to be drafted.

Joel MacDonald *

Age 28 188 Ht 88 Kgs

Debuted 2004 (Brisbane)

Career = 124 Games 6 Gls 15 Bhs

2013 = 1 Game 0 Gls 1 Bhs

Best Season 2009 (Brisbane)

Pros: Tough determined defender.

Cons: Now at his 2nd club, in a team struggling. Had some good servicable games. Disposal for an experienced player can be questioned.

Outlook:

I cant see joel seeing out another year on the list. he has played some good games, but others have moved ahead of him. Just a depth player and in the best interest of the club, his spot is better opened up for a a draft pick. To be cut.

Jordie McKenzie Contracted end of 2015

Age 23 186 Ht 82 Kgs

Career = 67 Games 10 Gls 4 Bhs

2013 = 10 Games 3 Gls 1 Bhs

Best Season: 2012 341 Disposals 3 Gls 2 Bhs

Pros: Could be one of the best shut down players in the AFL. Determined and committed to his task.

Cons: Lacks the ability to hurt the opposition by being only a defensive player.

Outlook:

Still only young, seems to have been around forever. One of the best shut down players going around. has had some of the toughest tasks to do for the team and most times comes out in front. He needs to improve his own possessions while keeping an opponent out of the game. Fills a role for the team. 'The human blanket'. But really needs to contribute more on offensive side of his game. Every team needs a Jordie Mac. Tagging can be seen as a thankless task. He is safe for now.
