OUT: Abbott IN: Turnbull

Worst PM in history of Australia, Billy McMahon's family can now say our Billy wasn't the worst PM because Tony 'lizard man' Abbott takes the title....good riddance you racist, sexist. homophobic turd!!!

I love you blokes (Tories that is). You are more than happy to stick the boots into people (migrants, single mothers, the LGBT community, JULIA GILLARD) but when the shoe is finally on the other foot, you expect all the compassion of Mother Teresa.

Maybe you can change my mind towards Tony's downfall tonight. I will set you a challenge. Show me the error of my ways using a simplistic three word slogan. Have fun with it and make sure to make Tony proud with how banal and vacuous you can be.

They always treated Julia Gillard with nothing but respect at all times because that's in their DNA

As for your 3-word slogan - how about this

Where? Not Labor!!

Malcolm Turnbull is an embarrassment to the Liberals. They will lose in a landslide. The only people who like him are those who don't and wont vote Liberal anyway.

I have voted liberal in the past, but not at the last election.

With Turnbull at the helm I will likely vote liberal again.

Your argument is invalid.

Yep, nothing but respect; John Howard’s former chief of staff, Grahame Morris on Julia Gillard...

And my favourite 3 word slogan courtesy of Malcolm: "advocacy not slogans".

I thought exactly the same thing.

So much hate. Abbott sure isn't the worst PM in history the 3 before him have that sewn up. Kevin 07 / Gillard / Rudd.

Like him or hate him as you do, he did what he campaigned and was elected to do. Stop the boats, abolish the carbon tax and abolish the mining tax. Any fair minded person can see that a PM who does what he/she was elected to do is on the right track. If Shorten campaigns to block the FTA with China and wins a mandate at the election I will think it is crazy but expect him to do it when he takes office.

... except he didn't do what he said. He still cut funding to the ABC and SBS when he said he wouldn't. He changed pensions when he said he wouldn't. I work in a financial adviser's office and I can tell you that there are A LOT OF people who voted for him who are [censored] off about this. He didn't introduce his signature maternity leave scheme.

He did not do what he was elected to do. He did SOME of what he was elected to do.

Are you serious? I just told you I have voted liberal again and Turnbull will encourage me to do so again. That's the complete antithesis to your point.

If you want to argue semantics, we can wait until the next election and see who I vote for. Then if I vote for Turnbull, you can admit your argument is invalid.

But I won't commit to it until I see how Turnbull goes.

You seem to be of the view that all conservatives have to be of this heavy right wing persuasion. It's just not true. It's conservatives like me who Turnbull appeals to.

Just because he doesn't appeal to you doesn't mean that he won't change other liberal voters' minds.

I'll be happy to be proved wrong. Couldn't stand the corrupt unions to run the country through their pawn Shorten.

I'd also be very disappointed if Shorten became PM.

I can't recall speaking with anyone, including staunch Labor voters, who think he's a good option to lead our country.

Not sure if you saw his press conference yesterday but it was full of crap.

Not keen on Shorten myself - I'd prefer a socialist.

Libs must have been really spooked by Canning as the overthrow seems to have had a healthy dose os Juli involved. Strange thing is Labour would happily have let Abbott win Canning as he is the best thing they have going for them. Shorten will certainly have to lift his game against Turnbull but suggest parliament will be the easiest place to do that. Move a bill for the republic or climate change or gay marriage and watch the libs and Nats tear themselves apart.

Its probably a question of who is going to be leader after Malcolm. Cant see Tony the political animal leaving quietly. This will be better than home and away. I know thats a low bar but has been around for a while.

I hope that's a pizz take. The internet sometimes doesn't allow us to see if people are actually being sarcastic....

The hypocrisy of this lot. It's truly breathtaking.

At least Abbott is gone. No matter the circumstance, having that lunatic no longer in charge can only be a good thing.

Haha..the first few pages of this thread make for interesting reading.

no, Malcolms been planning this since before the last election, during the rudd/gillard time... he's smart enough to know that He would never be elected to the leadership of the Libs as they currently are, unless they had no choice... They are in-between leaders, ie: the rabbott > Morrison.. regarding timing of leadership transition. There is no one else electable in that party, at this time.

so Malcolm timed his run, believing the rabbott will wear out his welcome with the Australian public. correct !!! And the plan has fallen into place, because of the rabbotts imo, delusional thinking. He was/is so big on having faith, he thought nothing could go wrong, & that he wasn't an issue... wrong.

so now we payout another $300,000.00 per-annum in retirement pension to that jack rabbott.

"the time of troubles" is nothing if not interesting ;;; thus far anyway. Hold onto your hats. They say that politics & leadership gets so hectic during these times, people forget who the leaders are; there will be so many upheavals & changes around the world.

this is a time of change.

Good riddance. Mister Negative who was against everything progressive. He set the bar so high for everyone else in positions of authority. There were no excuses for failure by others when he was purely a sniper in opposition. Once he found himself in a position of responsibility having to make decisions he was a complete and utter failure of the first order. Unable to work with people, unable to develop coherent policy, no grasp of economics, unable to communicate the basics without talking to you like you were an imbecile. The Infrastructure Prime Minister who I don't believe managed to build a Federally funded national toilet block in his tenure,

That was Tony, the attack dog who dragged our politics to a new low level. His personal attacks on Gillard were beyond anything we had experienced in our politics to date. And his advocacy for the coal industry is beyond the pale in my view environmentally but just plain stupid economically as well. He will be damned in history in 50 years time I suspect.

Other than that he was OK.

I hope that's a pizz take. The internet sometimes doesn't allow us to see if people are actually being sarcastic....

Well I thought it to be a reasonable rewording of Mr. A's plea for not changing leaders pre-last night's Liberal Party poll where he said by way of arguing against a leadership change : We're not Labor

So truly sorry to have to explain these things ......

Yeah, Shorten too right wing for a real Labour man

Stop the boats, Stopped carbon tax, abolish mining tax, thats all he did and are they good things? He lied on just about everything, people like you who don't see the lies and deceit by Abbott&co are rusted on conservatives who would vote that way if Pauline Hansen were the leader

Other than that he was OK.

The sad thing is the people never wanted him, & he should not have ever been given that honor... he got there by default, out of a protest from the people of the mayhem of Rudd administration, Rudd had to go after he faulted under pressure of abbott, & also the right wing media savaging, & the mining industry.

democracy suffered under that attack from those vested interests.

Gillard had no chance of ever governing well, (even tho she got a lot of bills thru) when she had to fight Rudd's sniping, that same right wing media savaging, & abbotts obsessive negative gutter snipeing, & his Liberal cronies all crawling thru the gutter to get at her at every and any opportunity.

abbott took office essentially by vested interests stopping the message getting thru to the people. I am disgusted by murdoch & his media empire; & I will never ever patronise that business empire ever again in my lifetime.

and now they are aiming to slowly take down Free to Air television so they can charge us all for pay per view. milking us all like cows. the dairy formers have copped it hard from big business, & its coming us all. Our car industry is one of the first to feel it.

you have to stop using the conservative word/title... they are NOT conservatives when it comes to Climate change; they are radicals, terrorists of the climate. There is nothing conserving in the liberal party, when it comes to protecting our climate, & of Australia's nature.

nor is there any conserving of Australia's egalitarian culture.

they are not conservatives.

They certainly weren't conservative when it came to Medicare ..

If they'd had their way what with copayments and cutting hundreds of millions out of the forward estimates of the States' health budgets, then those worthless poor ( not including me I hasten to add) would have been forced to fend for themselves just as they should ( as happens in the Home of the Brave and the Land of the Free where those wretches have to sell their almost worthless houses to pay for their childrens' appendix operations which is just the market economy expressing itself as the cream rises to the top and the dregs sink).

I'm pretty sure they were on the right track

But why would they want to support universal health care anyway?

After all, it was brought in by Labor originally so it must be bad ipso facto.

So they probably were being conservative in a way - just conservative of the way it used to be before the poor had access to decent health care ( which I and many respectable surgeons maintain they don't deserve )

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
