And like Neeld, early in his coaching career everyone thought Clarkson was a lame duck...shouldn't Neeld be given the same opportunity to build his list and get it up and running?

Clarkson didn't have the cattle. But he had clear "buy in" from his playing group. They didn't walk between stoppages or completely give up chasing opponents.

ADELAIDE'S star-studded playing core has apologised to coach Brenton Sanderson as he grapples with how to replace the injured Taylor Walker.

Sanderson has held one-on-one meetings with players in a bid to arrest Adelaide's shaky season, with Walker's loss compounding a 2-3 start to the year.

"Some of the (match review video) edits of passages that we play, they're quite embarrassed. They sort of shake their head," Sanderson said on Wednesday.

"I have had a lot of one-on-one meetings this week with some of our best players who have just come in with their head down, saying 'I'm letting you down at the minute, I'm letting the team down'.

"Sometimes when you're going through a bit of a form slump, players start blaming everything but themselves.

"But our guys will put their hand up. I'll put my hand up as a coach, I can coach better as well."

I'm not sure that he did in his first couple of seasons... as I don't have access to any documented evidence one way or the other, I am relying on my vague memories of times when they weren't a particularly happy team at Hawthorn.

Its a waste to bother right now... wait til Neeld has cleaned the club of the Rot, & see how he pans out thru the year... if he goes bad thru the 2nd part of the season, then look at it.

Roos would be excellent,, starting 2014 or after,,,,, IF HE Wanted to go again....

But IMO, he would not... with the 'decades old culture' of the club, & the players, he would be unlikely IMO. Unless he had the necessary support to smash the culture cycle that stops us from developing our kids.

Whilst some of it is cultural, the biggest issue we've failed to address until recently is a lack of resources in the FD. Now that it has been addressed, this will crush the cycle of poor development IMO.

I know he's not on the poll and, as I've not read the entire thread, I'm not sure if he's been mentioned but Mark Harvey comes to mind. A bit of an eccentric but I reckon a good coach who was shabbily treated.

He is the sort of guy who could win hearts and minds at a basket case of a club.

Whilst some of it is cultural, the biggest issue we've failed to address until recently is a lack of resources in the FD. Now that it has been addressed, this will crush the cycle of poor development IMO.

garbage, the single biggest issue is the culture, followed by what was the old facilities & footy spend.

we've been under resourced for decades, & not kept up with AFL facilities since Smithy was sacked...

whilst footy dept spend is crucial & to have the facilities to help the players develop their bodies, the club lost its strong culture by the 1970's.

In the 80's, the MCC would not provide larger areas for a Gymnasium/Weights Room, so the players could workout on modern equipment... not only that, but the MCC decided in their wisdom, that they were going to start roping off the centre wicket area, effecting the players ability to train properly on the MCG.

Then, the next thing was the Club was moved out of the MCG & down to the Junction Oval, which is controlled by cricket & heritage acts so Melbourne could not develop any facilities. and had to be off for the cricketers...

buggered by the MCC at every turn.

.... they are no help whatsoever.

Can we give our next coach a 2 year contract with an option for a 3rd season if he meets KPI's?

Save a lot of money/time.

I still think it's the midfield which is crippling us.We'd be a much better team this year had we had Moloney,Jones,Viney,Wines!!!

In regards to CURRENT training facilities - due to the new facilities at Casey, which I think was delivered in 2009 (go check i out its awesome), and AAMI Parks (the same one used by the best team in the NRL: the Storm) in 2011 - technically we have the newest and best quality facilities in the AFL...

Have review with Neil Craig to give objective advice as head coach adviser whatever,

before season end but with enough time to prepare for positive transition.

Neeld to be retained as mid field coach (If he wants it) and given greater priority to draft and recruiting of midfield this year.

New game day coach appointed for structural development of plans A B C D and E at least with greater input into selection based on strategies designed to negate strengths of specific opponents.or exploit strengths of our list also as appropriate against specific opponents

We need to have greater flexibility and not rely on the one single game plan

Moloney was one of our best midfielders. Apart from years where he was injured, 2012 was his only really down year. He had his faults, but which of our players is faultless?

I believe he was mismanaged by Neeld to the detriment of the the playing list and the club.

I didn't mind them moving him on at the time, but i expected guys like trengove to have a full pre season and improve, but he hasn't had that and another big bodied clearance player would be very handy right now.

I think the Bulldogs will be extremely happy with Stringer and Mcrae as we will be with Hogan and Toumpas.
