The Laziest AFL Team in Modern History

I watch a lot of footy

This MFC Team and recent MFC Teams work ethic is the worst in the competition. They do not work hard at all for this level of football, and this is no exaggeration. This is the essence of all our problems. Pure lazy list of footballers who simply do not work hard enough on game day.

This reflects on EVERYONE at this club.

From the interviews I heard, they all said the same thing. "I didn't see that coming, we hav trained so well" etc. What, did they think they could just have a few good training sessions and turn up and have a win.

And they all sit in their little pockets in the defensive zone, expecting to mop up opposition attacks without working hard enough.

I agree, that was the single laziest display I have ever seen. And this list has priors, so they are definitely not excused.

Sometimes I think to myself what is it that Dane Swan or Trent Cotchin has that Nathan Jones or Jack Grimes lacks? After yesterday I started to think what is it that Port Adelaide or Richmond or any ofher bloody team have that we don't? It can't be the coach we have been through enough of them in the last decade. It can't be the players we have had old new high draft picks recycled players the lot.

Why is it that our club has gone down and not been able to rise? While all other clubs show improvement or they play kids who look exciting or pick up recycled players and can get something out of them?

What is wrong with us?

We keep sacking coaches untill everyone is afraid to take on the job?

We keep getting high draft picks and never develop them, or they move to other clubs not because of poor culture but complete lack of anything that even resembles a culture?

We keep picking up recycled players untill we have a team that would get rolled by most VFL teams.

2 weeks ago in the Casey practice match our "midfield" of Trenners McKenzie Blease and Viney got slaughtered by VFL players. Players every other AFL team in the country thought wouldn't good enough to play at the highest level but on a clinic for our boys.

They dont want it bad enough, they are just happy to be on an AFL list

It's bizarre isn't it..

I guess you could say Trenners and Blease were having their first run since injury and were probably going at 60%, but still.

McKenzie is a spud, pure and simple. Yes he can tag and tackle but he is a dead weight otherwise. When a player of his ability is a depth player at best, we will have moved forward.

There is a cancer at our club. How many new players have we all seen come in a show a glimmer of talent only for it to disappear. I don't think it would matter who we drafted over the past decade, they a seem to end up lazy and clueless. Is this the fault of the players? Or of the last 2 coaches and coaching staff? Maybe the Footy department ? Who knows what it is but it crushes any player that comes into contact with it. We need to find out where it is and fast. Untreated there is only one outcome, death of the football club.

I have worked why I'm so disappointed about yesterday. It's because I believed the crap the club was feeding us about being fitter, stronger, having better work ethics and leadership - I believed it and was hopeful for a team I could enjoy going to watch.

Yesterday proved that I'm an idiot for believing it. And secondly the moneyball theory is best left for the movies.

exactly what i said last night in one of the posts. 100% spot on

There is a cancer at our club.

It was contracted when Daniher was dumped for No good reason. It was worsened when Dean Bailey pushed out players like Jeff White, Russell Robertson and James McDonald 1-2 years before their times were up and caused a bunch of youngsters to be taught the ropes by a couple of party boys in Moloney and Sylvia. No wonder we have 2 boys as captains, no wonder we have no leadership on the field, no wonder none of the kids out there know where to run or kick the ball. There was no senior leadership when they were developing as AFL players.

Well I hope it changes very soon cos I would rather see Jack Viney flourish at another club than waste away at Melbourne.

i Realy feel for guys like Viney, Hogan and Toumpas. This is supposed to be their dre come true. Turning out to be a nightmare. We introduce new players slowly and sparingly so as they can adjust to the speed and intensity of the game with the help of more experienced and senior players. EPIC FAIL!

Not quite sure why you added "Modern" in the thread title Soidee

We have NO LEADERS. Grimes tries hard and Mitch when the ball gets into our 50. BUt where the F*** are the 8 so called leaders we keep reading about. What do these leadership groups actually do because they sure as hell don't lead on the ground.

What leadership did frawley and Garland show on the weekend?

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.

  • PREGAME: Sydney

Just a game and percentage outside the Top 8, the Demons return to Melbourne to face the Sydney Swans at the MCG, with a golden opportunity to build on the momentum from toppling the reigning premiers on their own turf. Who comes in, and who makes way?
