Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

'Raising The Bar' ... 9 MFC players who must lift in 2013.

His where I disagree. There is not a suggestion that he should carry the team but it is ill ring the individuals named to take a giant step. I have watched a plethorara of Matthew bates come through our club... Yeah... He was ok... But he never took the next step. Each of the players RR highlighted have something but they can either take that next which we are imploring them to do or be consigned to ...yeah... He was alright...

Exactly. Putting the heat on certain players should not be seen as insulting. It is merely to find out how strong they are. If the above 9 do improve this year the nett effect will be seen.

After 6 years of non competitive excuses (2010 almost broke the trend but ultimately fell away after QB) i will continue to be hard on our list.

IF WE DO NOT START WINNING SERIOUSLY WITHIN THE NEXT 2 YEARS CARLTON & THEIR 60,000 MEMBERS WILL TAKE OVER OUR POSITION AT THE MCG.

We have to be hard on our players. It's a hard game.

The difference being Bate was 25 when cut by us. We do desperately need those guys to take the next step, but that's the key there, "next step". They're developing.

I just think there's a difference between "putting the heat on" and having too high expectations of what they should be contributing to the team.

Those young blokes should show improvement this year, but ask ANY AFL coach, commentator, or expert and they'll tell you it's the 24-28 year olds that are expected to carry the team. So yes, we NEED improvement from them, but we also need to be focusing the attention and demands on those peak age players. Do you remember the Bailey years? Did you notice who we recruited in the last offseason? It's already clear we have a desperate need of senior players to do the work while the younger ones develop.

i am not talking about Senior Players Stuie. The thread is about a certain 9 players. The 9 players chosen are the correct ones to focus on.

If they improve the whole side improves.

At some stage this team has to leave the womb and either stand up or die.

Watching last night a bunch of no name kids had a red hot crack. How many of our 4-5 year players would beat them?

The problem is Stu, we've been "developing" players, lists, gameplans etc for years yet we are still shite. The development story is running a bit thin. It's time for results.

Couldn't agree more on that. I'm sick of that word. But it's the reality of where our more talented players are coming from, they're all under 23 pretty much.

4 of those 9 players mentioned are 22 or under. Let's be stern on improvement, but not expect them to be the ones to carry us on a weekly basis.

There will be weeks where the young guys smash it, but they're still building the consistency. That's just how it works.

You are too soft Stuie.

Like some school mates who went to Uni for 25 years, but never made the jump to a serious career.

The 9 mentioned players have the ability to fast track if THEY decide to push themselves.

Age should not always dictate.

Come on WYL, you at least need to be realistic. How did we go under Bailey when relying on under 24s? It's not reality to expect them to be matured enough physically to carry us. Why do you think we recruited Clark, Dawes, Gillies, Byrnes, Rodan, Pedersen, Sellar, Magner etc etc...

Talk about the 9 players Highlighted.

That is what interests me, not excuses.

I see they have already started after losing to the

GC $un$.

This club is staring at oblivion. It has lost the ability to win.

Watch those Lion Kiddies last night. They were hungry.

You keep regurgitating excuses at me.

Take it the the general forum and when I have time I'll engage you in debate.

Oh Lord!! spare us the neocon dribble that you'll make it a better world by giving all the governments cash to corrupt organisations/. The American experiment is over, the neocons sent it broke. It ain't coming back and hopefully nor are its policies.

I disagree with a lot of what you have to say on "footy matters". But that's fine.

And I'm not "one eyed" when it comes to life matters. Conservatives by nature aren't.

conservatives are one eyed, it's one of ther reasons we label them conservative you goose

Exhibit 'A'.

You don't become a conservative, or clear thinker, you're born one.

Now [censored] off and take it to the general board should you wish.

Just a word for both 'Roost It' and 'Ben-Hur'.

Conservatives are no more 'one eyed' than any other political group in our society.

People may be born into one political grouping, but that certainly does not mean they are, or stay, in that grouping - clear thinking (which they may or may not have to be taught) is usually what changes their mind, if they apply it properly.

The Demonland Nine - an epic tale of desperation, unbridled passion and unrequited love that has stirred the hopes and dreams of a generation of fans, stimulating debate across the political spectrum.

Definite Hollywood potential.

Nice thread hijack btw. Demonland never fails to disappoint.

In regards to the Demonland Nine, I think the OP has done a good job of highlighting those who need to show that they've taken another genuine step in their development in 2013. I think I know what I'm going to get with Jordie. The rest, however, are less predictable. I've given up on Sylvia as a dominant force in the midfield. So of your 9, Trengove's development (on top of an injury-plagued pre-season) is the most important simply because he plays in the midfield. If we're to make serious strides, Trengove, Jones and Grimes need to become very very good players before Viney and Toumpas mature to give us the depth we need.

The Demonland Nine? Great name, but it actually applies to the nontuplet of Whispering Jack, Range Rover, WYL, stuie, Ben-Hur, belzebub59, Rhino Richards, rpfc and the new kid on the block "Bitter but optimistic".

So far this preseason Watts is the only one from that list that looks to have stepped up.

To a lesser extent Dunn and Jamar as well, and at least Tapscott is fit and looking better witheach game.

But its Sylvia and Trengove we need to improve the most, we just cant afford Trenners to have another year like last year, and Sylvia needs to show some urgency, as he knows with the talent he has, he should be leading the way.

True-and real conservatives aren't controversial. They wear tweed and don't like change.

Mostly they keep to themselves .

Neo-cons are a trashy new version of pragmatic arse lickers that want to destroy the earth and everything in it for the betterment of the oil and arms industry.

Usually of lower-middle class, they aspire to be conservative but are not moneyed or educated enough so they espouse rubbish in an attempt to appeal to old money.

Andrew Bolt for instance , no decent education, no conservative ideas, just offensive enough to keep his crappy job as Dumbo posterboy and controversy maker.

Even South Australian mental defectives like him have their minions, who must really be struggling to think for themselves.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
