Well my old mans favourite saying is "no matter what time it is during the game, big men stay big." He also says that if he was a coach he would field a team full of red heads as they just seem to be angry at the world so they make good players.

I think our balance is a lot better having a few 'true' position players. As in a giant Clark at FF or CHF with Dawes sharing and Pedro obviously swapping with Jamar in the ruck.

They along with Watts and Frawley are the only real certin starters IMO and that doesnt necessarily make us a giant team.

Gillies is back up for Chip, no more no less. Gawn will still take time to develop the required leg strength to become a good ruckman which will be in perfect timing when the Rush is finishing up. Spencer is just depth for now. Sellar is a role player and will play against teams with multiple monster forwards.

Fitzy will pressure Pedro and Dawes to keep performing at there best.

I think the amount of talls on the list is just right

Interesting deeko My dad used to say 6' 5" is still 6'5" at the 20 minute mark of the last quarter.

As a boy it took me a while to work his saying out.

Not to burst any bubbles, but also to alleviate any fears here are the two Grand Finalist's players over 193cm: Basically they have the same amount as us, and all are similarly heavy. Basically it seems like this is a normal amount of talls for an AFL list. Also it seems that AFL players in general are getting taller, just in doing this excercise it became aparent that players under 180cm are relatively rare (the swans only have 2!) and also that several teams have players in the 190-194cm range playing vastly different roles, eg Grundy is a KPD at 192cm while Goodes plays largely as a wingman/midfielder at 194cm. Basically all the teams are tall, they just contain a range of body types and abilities suited to roles.

Hawthorn 2012:

Bailey 206cm

Lowden 204cm

Hale 201cm

Grimley 199cm

Boumann 196cm

Franklin 196cm

Roughead 193cm

Birchall 193cm

Gunston 193cm

Schoenmakers 193cm

Sydney 2012:

Pike 200cm

Mumford 199cm

White 197cm

Reid 195cm

Walsh 195cm

Roberts-Thompson 194cm

Everitt 194cm

Goodes 194cm

A. Johnstone 193cm

Richards 193cm

Thank you Jbag for broadening my education - specifically my vocabulary. I just researched the previously unknown "chode". Fantastic- I cannot wait to use it. In the most inappropriate circumstances of course.

I had to Google it as it didn't appear in two online dictionaries. Haven't ever seen the guy but he must ge an awful sight!!

And I just cannot stop laughing every time I try to picture him..

And, by the way, certainly not a single chode amongst those listed! :-)))))

Don't mean diddly if your names Koschitzke.

T.Mcdonald, Garland, Davis and Dunn are also over 190cm.

Too many of the same kind.

Do we really need Sellar, Gilies and Davis?

Why do we have them, considering we have Pedo up forward, and Watts, Dunn, Mcdonald and Garland down back.

Just cause neeld is 190cm, dosnt mean the team has to be moulded in his image.

Personally I'm a lot closer to you than most others.

A horribly unbalanced team of mostly good VFL players. Two years time when we are getting rid of most of them we will be horribly void of good smart young footballers. Neeld is pinning his career on a very risky path

Now list the mid runners and you'll see why we are only above GWC and GC

Mark Thomson cleared the weeds out of Geelong unless they were very quick or very good .

Its the first thing he told Hird to do also.

Size matters these days.

Skill helps too .

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov
