FAREWELL JORDAN GYSBERTS

Featured Replies

I keep hearing that Gysberts is gone but no one can provide an actual trade scenario.

If North want a 2nd rounder for Pedersen then surely Gysberts at worst is worth a pick between 20-30.

Guy doing the live chat on Superfooty, in answer to a question on Gys staying, emphatically said "he'll go".

Same bloke says Ray will stay a Saint.

so Guy has morphed into bloke. Must be something in this

Yeah, he is an interesting fella.

I'm waiting !

Classic Demonland post!

How do you feel about it cunnerz?

One issue with this forum is that many of you are afraid of being trolled simply because you state a personal view or opinion? Yes trolling is alive and well in Demonland! read some LJ threads if you don't believe me.

Most of us are like sheep and only post if it's not out sync with the status quo.

IMO MFC would be crazy to let Gysberts go. He has performed very well against Cats at Skilled and would be a great gain for Geelong. Gysberts career has been dogged by injury to date and we still don't know just how good he is.

You are clueless, he played 14 games for Casey.

Ah yes, and there's no difference between AFL and VFL, he should have been able to just cope with AFL level despite the injuries that interrupted him at every critical stage this year...

Get a clue mate, then you'd have 1 in total.

Come on mate, don't you know it's a "fact" he's lazy and refuses to "buy in".... That info is straight from the mouth of an anonymous source of an anonymous demonland poster and is backed up by the "factual" opinions of those here who want to trade him... An they're the facts....

Every time we contemplate losing a player for less than we paid, having never seen them deliver on their supposed potential it is painful.

Jordan raised our hopes early on, but seems to have hit a brick wall with the new Coach, FD and demands this year.

Have to trust the FD to make the call, and hope they get it right.

Agreed on the last point, if the FD decide to trade him then it's them that live and die by that.

Silly to use terms like "never seen them deliver" for a guy barely 21 though. (Unless of course you mean never, apart from those first 2 games where he was pretty much BOG)

You and I will have to agree to disagree.

A midfielder picked up at pick 11 after two years in the system should not be spending 14 games in the seconds trying to break into a team that finished 16th. Such a performance is simply below expectations and indicates a flaw in his ability to prepare and /or perform...

Moloney, Green, Junior and Jurrah played some great games in 2010 as well.

Or maybe it indicates a flaw in his preparation due to injury... I don't say it about many players, but for some reason I have a feeling Gys is worth the gamble, especially given we would not get much for him now... Cook, not so much

Oh you mean a former BnF, 2 captains, and a prodigious talent known for turning games with the spectacular... Yeah they never delivered either.... *facepalm*

I'd agree he has/had potential, and assuming the FD also see this potential, then they must be put off by some serious flaws in order to be open for a trade, especially when his value is low.

So the question with Jordan is, what are these flaws?

Can they be fixed?

and will it be worth the effort?

They are no longer part of our future.

This bloke on the Herald Sun trading board is an idiot! About an hour ago says that Gysberts will find a new home as he''s out of favour. Has now just said that there's a good chance he'll stay!

I wouldn't pay attention to anything that comes from there.

Lol... you have 0 understanding mate.

2 of those guys retired, 1 found a new club, 1 has a massive complicated legal situation.

Can you show me where Melbourne has said they are looking to trade him? Also, please fill me in on the flaws with the players we traded in seeing that's apparently the criteria for trade.

Haha yeah I saw this dunno what he is on about. Someone on here said he was training with Grimes the other day.

Surely that means he is staying put.

I was bored. And now I am really bored.

Read about the "Order merit effect" and think of Jordan as coal. QED.

You dont just lose potential. Have you ever come back from a serious injury and played to your best ability? I wouldnt of thought so. It takes time and Gysberts took that time this year. He will be in our starting 22 next year IF he stays. I for one hope he does.

Within reason WYL, they all want it and it's one thing to do it at underage level and think yes I can do this. Play every week recover and get the body right for the following weeks match

You don't know how badly you really want it till you are challenged beyond your comfort zone. Anyone who has trained at a high level or done endurance events will tell you there are freaks who can just do things beyond others, but by and large we can all get to a certain level before you hit the wall and need to go beyond points you have ever been. this is all in the mind and in a persons make up. I hear landers saying you can't train this and that is correct to a point but I break it down to two scenarios.

a) Some have it but because they are good at a junior level they don't realise how much they want it till they get delisted or realise I have been in the system for a few years now and I am going nowhere, they get told by the coach/fd or even family members (eg Tim & Jobe Watson) your wasting this chance and need to decide what you want.

B) The Dane Swan's, Sam Mitchells and others of the footy world not gifted with size, speed or genuine elite athletic builds who have throughout junior footy always had to give their all and it is just part of them that is apparent I would guess from the day that turn up at their first pre season after getting drafted.

Those players who push themselves beyond the limit running till you drop vommitting and getting back up to keep running and get yourself fitter. That is what seperates being talented to making the grade.

gysberts was the slowest at the time trial last year coming back to preseason. Not injured. Out of condition.

How much does he want it?

Loads of kids his age have passed him, & yes some don't make it. But i don't want to hear excuses. Head down & work or see ya later.

He has struggled to get games with the worst list in the AFL.

Gys

Stop attacking the man 'stuie' - people are allowed to have opinions even if you consider them wrong

Gysberts like Cook both had injury interupted seasons - you can make the same argument for both of them, but you choose not to because of you have your own opinion...... which is fine....both were high draft you can't say both didn't show potential.

Personally I hope Gys stays and proves everyone wrong..... but the simple fact is we as supporters don't actuall know how Gys is rated within the FD. He could be lazy and soft for all we know......... We know how Cook was rated by the FD - he was delisted

And that will be a call for Neeld and the FD - is Gys worth presisting with or will he be traded / delisted to give another bloke an opportuinty/??? We'll know soon enough

In a fashion you might be contradicting yourself. I'll explain.

You CAN lose potential.. After all potential is the level to that which you have no achieved ( in the context of players )

A players ability can be broken down into sheer physical ability and skillsets.

if after an injury or series of injuries your physical ability isnt that which it might have been before then your potential will have dropped.

Taking time to recover and get up to full speed is not necessarily tied or dependent upon the players potential.

Conversely a players potential rarely increased.

This is why some players , even seasoned ones when they return arent quite what they used to be and if theyre still developing they may now NEVER be what they might have been.

It sounds convoluted but theres a simple and irrepressible logic to it.

y

yikes !

How about this.

Potential is unfulfilled reality. You can potentially be a worldbeater or you can potentially be the biggest spud god put breath into. You need to fast forward a defined period (and hopefully has seen some progress) to ascertain if the potential materialised.

The reality comes down the track. I hate potential as I have seen it, smelled it and lived it for far too long with this club and it has amounted to bupka's.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
