who's talking AFL Rules here?

I am talking Business Rules.

"Loose Lips Sink Ships" is a beauty, says it all. We must play hard ball & give nothing away.

the idea of playing hard...and being the good guys is an anachronism

He comes highly regarded.

No-one knows how he will do as head recruiter, most on this thread think we screwed over Eddie and that's enough for them.

Personally, I say welcome aboard Jason. Now go and pick footy players who like to play football the way it is played today.

Its irrelevent.

It only matter for Melbourne that we are Melbourne and successful. its interesteing we all dride Carlton for their brown bags. We disdain at Collingwood and their 'power to do as they see fit ' . We despise Esssendons arrogance. We mock Hawthorns snobishness, we are amused by Geelongs 'Geelong-ness" their city limitedness etc.

They all have one thing in commn, they really dont give a [censored]

i don't give a F$&@k about the 17 other clubs either. But there are ways of quietly doing it right or being stupid.

To break rules is stupid. To use rules to an advantage is smart.

to get caught is stupid...!!!

you suggest using the rules is ok...there are NO f'n rules...Only in your head. The real world suggests there is then rewards those who ignore them. Wake up

oh i am awake. We have already F$&@ked up the past 5 years & cannot afford to do it again. The MFC have to be smarter than the rest to rise from the pit.

"Swim under the surface" to get what we want and need.

for f sake you suggest all the untowad things, allthe scurrulous activity, the "swimming beneath teh surface:" wtf do you think this is other than disregarding everyone else and simply not being caught ?

Your trying to assume the high ground whilst duck diving. A toal joke for mine.

Either acknowlege the reality and how its REALLY done and forget the brouhaha or live in your idealistic dreamworld.

How its done is how its done. How its seen is a whole different thing. How its seen is often a result of whether caught or not, not intent.

I care not for the other 17 clubs., not a bit

Thankyou for your permission. Ill sleep better now

You quite hypocritical in this issue.

You are quite happy to do all the "wrong" stuff.. Just quietly. What on gods earth do you think is the alternative. To parade down Bourke st with a marchng band trumpeting the news ?? But if some one was to suggest that theyre quite happy with this its folly ?

Rubbish.

Do I actually expect Taylor to do anything ? No

Would I be upset or compromised if he did ? ( that is give a nudge or a wink via notes written in invisible ink ) Not in the slightest.

You obviosuly havent the slightest clue what some of us have been saying.

What I find interesting is that when Barry Prendergast was hired by MFC it was regarded as a coup by the Club as 'he was highly regarded" .....how times change

What's so good about him? Not sure. He's been learning the caper from one of the best in Hines, so if he can bring some of that wisdom to bear on our footy club's recruiting processes and decision-making, then I'll be happy. Has to be an upgrade on previous years.

Its all about integrity. If I was Jason Taylor and a MFC official asked directly / indirectly for some 'tips' then I would be very disappointed in that official and even question the values of the club. But that's just me.

Me too, and if Jason Taylor offered some "tips" he would not be seen as being a trusted employee. In fact I would be very surprised if the club would employ him.

We've made our bed this year with Todd and co. and lets just hope they get it right. Time will tell.

Why would you find it "interesting" ? Clearly when anyone is promoted it is hoped and expected they'll do well; and you wouldn't hire someone in the first place unless their football reputation was good. But it's also no guarantee they'll make good choices.

Btw, Prendergast was hired from within the club. He was Daniher's opposition analyst. You're giving the impression that he was new to the club.

Im not sure it would be this black and white ( pardon the pun) . For a start we have two perhaps three high picks ( depending on Viney) this year well before the pies. He may be asked his impression on the picks we are leaning to as they wouldn't be around at collingwoods pick anyway. Or, if we were deciding between 2 or 3 players in a late pick, he may also be asked his opinion. I dont think there's too much untoward in any of that and it would be naive to think we wouldnt be interested in his thoughts.

Also, I may just add that this is the rod COLLINGWOOD created for itself by making him stay another year as assistant. We shouldnt have to be TOO careful in this situation. We need to be respectful...but not overly so.

All i can reasonably deduce is many live in a fairytale world.

There is NO level playing field. You make the best of anything you can.

I know what he was, that was my point, when first hired it was regarded as a 'good thing'...but also when he became recruiting manager it again was regarded as a good thing......I just love the coveting that goes on on this board....MFC are hopeless at this, that, the other, why can't we be like Geelong/Pies/Swans......as another poster said in another thread...why some continually stick with a basket case of a club that is so obviously the MFC at the moment, is beyond him (and me)........is there anything that everybody on this board is happy with that the Club has done?...doesn't seem to be....should rename this board Demoncarping or Envyland

.can't wait for the bagging in a couple of years time if Taylor decides to join us and one of his high picks 'fails'

Ah but youre forgeting. With our imminent meteoric rise up the ladder "high" picks will become a thing of the past

  • PREVIEW: West Coast

Saturday’s election night game in Perth between the West Coast Eagles and Melbourne represents 18th vs 15th which makes it a tough decision as to which party to favour. The Eagles have yet to break the ice under their new coach in Andrew McQualter who is the second understudy in a row to confront Demon Coach Simon Goodwin who was also winless until a fortnight ago. On that basis, many punters might be considering to go with the donkey vote but I’ve been assigned with the task of helping readers to come to a considered opinion on this matter of vital importance across the nation. It was almost a year ago that I wrote a preview here of the Demons’ away game against the Eagles (under the name William from Waalitj because it was Indigenous Round).  I issued a warning that it was a danger game, based on my local knowledge that the home team were no longer easybeats and that they possessed a wunderkind generational player in Harley Reid who was capable of producing stellar performances playing among men a decade and more older than he.  At the time, the Eagles already had two wins off the back of a couple of the young man’s masterclasses and they had recently given the Bombers a scare straight after their Anzac Day blockbuster draw against the then reigning premiers.

  • NON-MFC: Round 08

Round 08 of the 2025 AFL Season kicks off on Thursday with a must-win game for the Bombers to stay in touch with the top eight, while the struggling Roos seek a morale-boosting upset. Friday sees the Saints desperate for a win as well if they are to stay in finals contention and their opponents the Dockers will be eager to crack in to the Top 8 with a win on the road. Saturday kicks off with a pivotal clash for both sides asthe Bulldogs look to solidify their top-eight spot, while Port seeks to shake their pretender tag. Then the Crows will be looking to steady their topsy turvy season against a resurgent Blues looking to make it 4 wins on the trot. On Election Night a Blockbuster will see the ladder-leading Pies take on the Cats, who are keen to bounce back after a narrow loss. On Sunday the Sydney Derby promises fireworks as the Giants aim to cement their top-eight status, while the Swans fight to keep their season alive. The Hawks, celebrating their centenary, will be looking to easily account for the Tigers who are desperate to halt their slide. The Round concludes on Sunday Night with a top end of the table QClash with significant ladder implications; both Queensland teams are in scintillating form. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
