At the end of 2011 you look at the players on our list and assess the holes in our list. One thing we had covered was at the time mid sized forwards, fast forward 12 months Green, Jurrah and look like Petterd gone, Bate will be gone, Dunn is playing down back, Sylvia is playing in the midfield and Howe spending time in the middle. The year before we thought we had the small forward role covered with Aussie, Maric, Davey, Bennell, Tapscott. Add to this the 2 tall forwards we took with first round picks Watts playing of HBF and Cook looking like he is gone, what I considered to be the strongest part of our list at the end of 2011 now looks lean.

Anyone who thought that the small forward role was covered by Aussie, Maric, Davey, Bennell and Tapscott was kidding themselves. Z-graders the lot of them.

I agree though that the goals are going to be very hard to get next year, particularly if Clark doesn't play most games.

Not sure why we want Howe to spend most of his time away from the forward line, and I will be severely p'ed off if Watts is played down back next year.

Always thought our back line was our strongest area with midfield and forward line lacking. Don't see the losses mentioned (aside form Liam) as huge.

Getting Clarke fit for all 22 matches in 2013 will make a difference.

Cook and Watts as CHF were plays that don't appear to have worked out, I have more confidence in Fitzy, Martin or Sellar holding

Aaron is a wild card, will he step up...?

Forwards going into 2013 would be Clark, Fitzy, Davey, Sellar, with Blease, Howe, Sylvia, Tapscott, Trengove going forward when not in the midfield. So I think we have the HFF covered. Need a big man and a small forward,

Maybe a part of his development under Neeld - possibly, now that he has shown that he can do a "harder working role" in the midfield, he will spend more time up forward or as part of a rotation with the likes of Sylvia and perhaps Tapscott.

And JW may have learned specific skills in his time in defence to make him a better forward. Possibly Tom McDonald has had a similar learning experience with a view to a successful move forward, especially if Sheahan comes on as a KPP defender.

Neeld certainly doesn't seem to want one dimensional players.

You didn't mention Lazarus Williams, who from the accounts of those who get to see Casey games has made far, far more progress towards AFL level than could have reasonably been anticipated. I look forward to seeing how he comes along with another pre-season.
