He was good but don't forget ... the sacking presser also doubles as a job application interview these days.

I did get the sense that ratts has mentally moved on and is ready to go again. Poor bugger, I don't know what's worse getting fired or getting hired by port.

Did he say "We played for draft picks" ????

Well former Carlton Premiership Coach and Player Robert Walls said exactly that in today's Age.

Given the previous comments of Libba and Fev, there has to be at least a two month AFL inquiry into this.

Don't forget the $650000.00 he needs to get from them for next year. Polite until paid would be the rule.

I did see Walls stated that!!! Where is the hoo haa and AFL investigation into that? Where is fat head Robbo bleating about that, where is Mike top 50 Sheenan asking the hard questions after seeing that quote?!

Would have signed a seperation agreement wouldn't he including $$ and when paid, he can say what he likes I'd think (within reason of course).

Can someone tell me if the media grilled him about draft picks and tanking? Completely missed the presser, and if he wasn't asked then this is the first but of evidence that the media really does have it in for us.

Wouldn't have mattered because Ratten would have just batted it away unlike Bailey who poured petrol on it.

The unfortunate difference between us and Carlton is we set no clear boundaries with Bailey and as a result he ended up in dispute with Management. I hope to God that we do with Neeld after this honeymoon period so when the day comes that they decide he is no up to it, he will understand, like Ratten has that everyone is expendable.

I disagree that it wouldn't have mattered, even if he did play a straight bat to it and bat it away it would still be on record as a question asked and should be relevant to to press conference given that part of the reason he's being sacked is because they believe they have a good list. Something that came about because he lost his first 9 (?) games.

Isn't it incumbent on the media to ask these questions, and seek the answers to the deeper questions. Given the witch hunt on Melbourne to do with tanking (caused by a Carlton player no less), shouldn't they be more willing to investigate that as they were with Bailey?

The action is not so about Ratten and his answer, it's the wider issue that they have been so willing to grill us that they should be equally keen on Rattens answer the that big question.

Given all of the recent controversy over tanking one would have thought it an obvious question to ask of Ratten at his fairwell presser, particularly in view of the fact that the Blues finished with three first picks in a row, that Ratten was part of the biggest tanking effort in AFL history and that it was publicly acknowledged in the media that morning by a Carlton icon.

The media silence on this point of Ratten's departure is both hypocritical and deafening.

Still, Paul Roos and On the Couch await on Mad Monday. If Roos fails to comment on Carlton's poor "culture" after all those years of tanking, he will stamp his name on the title of AFL hypocrite of the year.

FFS the body isn't even cold yet and you lot are dividing the assets?

Not sure the metaphor really works: (a) Ratten's not dead; (B) he is the asset.

Unless the body going cold is Carlton ...

IMO Brett Ratten was rather harshly treated to have been sacked. Nevertheless, if he for some reason doesn't get the coaching job at Port I think Melbourne should make an effort to recruit him again. I rate him very highly as a person and a coach and think he would make a fantastic addition to our coaching squad.

Should we make an attempt to lure him in again?

Cheers
